Boat on Springfield lake

There's just no ramp.  But that never stopped a redneck with a 4x4 and a little ingenuity.

Pretty much. Until they replace the bridge over Hwy. 65 and rebuild the ramp. But I wouldn't be surprised if this is their way of eliminating power boats from the lake.

Just my 2 cents, I wish they would do away with gas moter altogether. The lake is small and most of it is narrow.  My 16' richline can get anywhere on the lake in 20 minutes with a 55# thrust trolling moter. In the river channel even the small moters throw off a good wake. Half of boats with gas moters slow down and are considerate, the others not so much. It is a $250 fine for a oversized moter and they do give tickets. My fear is they will take all moter off the water to appease the pleasure kyakers. My reasons are selfish in there are big fish in that lake and alot of people keep their fish.

I put my tracker with a 60 in there all the time last winter. Took the prop off and tilted it up. Security came by about everytime i was launching and said it was fine as long as i didnt have the prop on. I also called the boat house and asked them and they said it was fine too.

The city park rangers mainly are the ones who issue tickets. I have never reported anyone nor would I, its none of my business. the city ord. clearly states attached motor, pretty simple. Would you put your boat on Fellows or McDainal?  Those who do  make an investment to comply with the rules do have a gripe. I would love to put my big boat on the lake, way more comfortable to fish out of. The slot limit is 12"-15" have to be released on bass. If I disagree with this can I keep bass in the slot? or more than the legal limit? I fail to understand the difference.  Anybody can do whatever they want, you just have to accept the consequences and ethically live with them. Good discussion.

keeping illegal fish is a conservation issue.  Having too large of a motor attached to to your boat is a safety issue (i guess?)  on these smaller lakes.

I think everybody agrees that this shallow city lake with a beautiful park on one bank and a National Cemetery on the other shouldn't have big motors run on it, with the noise, wakes, speeding boats, and safety issues big motors would cause.  No one wants that.

My point is that a motor that's not started, is kept raised out of the water, and has no prop attached or even present on the boat, can't cause any of the problems (noise, wakes, speeding, safety) the motor size-limitation ordinance was enacted to prevent.  In fact, a bass boat running with an electric trolling motor is silent, non-polluting, and not annoying to be around at all - unlike the small gasoline motors that are specifically allowed by the ordinance.

From aarchdale's post, above, it sounds like those in charge of the lake are showing the common sense to enforce the PURPOSE of that ordinance - to prevent the noise, wakes, speeding, and safety hazards that would be caused by running large motors.  If they're not using a poorly-worded law to cite people for a technical violation even though they're doing no harm, well, good for them!

Oh, 'hung on a rock', I always release all bass.  I don't think I'd want to eat fish of any species from Lake Springfield anyway, so you don't need to worry about me thinning the herd out.

I would agree with you Sam the fish on lake Springfield are not fit to eat . Bigger Boats that don't run their big motor are quitter and safer. I don't agree that it is a poorly written ordinance. The purpose is very plain . I am not sure if the veterans cemetery was there at the time. The ordinance states plainly attached motor. The purpose would be the same as  Fellows lakes 40 hsp. restriction, to limit the number of boats respective to the size of the body of water. They could place a speed limit on fellows and remove the hsp. restriction I am sure they would sell more stickers. Lake Springfield is small.
