Members slowbait Posted August 18, 2015 Members Posted August 18, 2015 Stockton lake is different because the corps own the land around the lake, so not so many people can build houses on or around the water. On the other deal with docks on table rock, I will always respect their property unless someone tells me I can't fish around the dock. They may own the dock but they DO NOT own the water. I have only had one problem with someone trying to run me off in 20 years. That's not a bad percentage. Most owners will ask me how is the fishing going. GNSfishing 1
Old plug Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Best thing I ever did as far as my dock goes is when I first came out here I and bought a MIG welder nd learned to use it. Thing cost me $450 but has save 10 times that much. Your right Mo Guy I miss interpreted it. Right to fish a dock is a touchy point with me makes me jump. We have more than our share of people around here think they have the right to stop people from fishing their near docks. If they try it with me I will tell them they have no right and then sit keep fishing and enjoy watching them raise cain with a me. I have lettering on the side of my boat 6" high saying deaf. Browning Guy Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 @OldPlug...... You state - "You see you do not own the lake just like up here at LOZ. You cannot prevent anyone from being that close to your dock. It does not bother me a bit if people fish my dock all they want. You won't find any reference where I mention in my original thread that I'm complaining about someone fishing the dock or I own the lake? I could care less and more importantly, I have no say in people fishing around the dock. With that said, I have had people tie up to the dock, get out on it and fish and make themselves at home. That I do have a problem with because these same people will be the first to file a law suit if they stub their toe. If a storm is coming through and you need safe harbor, by all means pull in and protect yourself. Come up to the house, tell me what you're doing and I will probably offer you a cold drink. I have taken the means provided to me via the Corp of Engineers to "Take control of the things you can." by paying for a no wake buoy to try to help my situation. If I were to run within 30 feet of a guide with clients fishing, I suspect they would be angry. Do I have a right to run close to the guide and client? Yes, but that would be disrespectful. My point is that we can all enjoy the public waters if we respect one another. In todays world of the me generation, it would seem we have lost sight of respect for one another as evidenced in the two cases I set forth. When someone fires up the engine and puts it on plane 15' from your dock that's low class or when a wake board boat gets within 30' of a dock inside of a main lake no wake buoy with kids swimming at the dock that's low class. If I drive within 30' of a fisherman, that's low class. I've seen many no wake buoys placed in narrow coves. Our buoy is on the main river channel with 800 yards (from outside the buoy) of deep main lake water to run in. A little respect for one another goes a long ways. @ Champ188.... You state "Besides the fact that I would never get on plane inside a no-wake buoy, Donna would knock a knot on my head if I did, and rightfully so." I have never met you or Donna, but I like your way of thinking and thank you for being respectful. Donna, put a knot on his head for good measure. Sam, Champ188, GNSfishing and 1 other 4
MOPanfisher Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Stockton does have a few private docks, but could you imagine trying to maintain a dock on Truman lake. The COE owns the land around all of its lakes, the difference is how much was bought. Pomme and Table were what are referred to as Eisenhower Lakes, at the time of their construction the policy was to buy the absolute minimun amount of land possible to ensure operation of the project. Later lakes bought considerably larger amounts of land. As mentioned LOZ is privately owned and has completely different rules.
Flysmallie Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Stockton does have a few private docks, Very, very few. That's why I have always liked it.
Old plug Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 The rule on LOZ is you only control the area your dock sets. That is somewhat broad. Some people thing it includes the cables and the water under it. I do not think it does. Like most other dock owners I never bother anyone. I have only been hollered at one time for going into a empty stall. The reason I went in there was to get a snagged jig. I told the guy what I was doing and he kept hollering. I told him to call the boat patrol. And went ahead and got my jig off the brush.
Members slowbait Posted August 18, 2015 Members Posted August 18, 2015 Dock owners are not the problem. Its these parents that let their kids take the big boats out and have no respect for anyone. Mainly the wake boats and tubers. They would rather go in circles in a creek or cove to show off rather to the main lake where they belong. Its safer out there. Or sit in the middle of the lake at night without their lights on..................................... Sam and Browning Guy 2
Members slowbait Posted August 18, 2015 Members Posted August 18, 2015 It amazes me that some of these people tubing or whatever don't know that there are tress in these coves that they are just a few feet below them. dtrs5kprs 1
MOPanfisher Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 No kidding Slowbait. Some years back I worked an accident on Pomme where a guy sitting in the front chair of a bass boat pulling a tube in a cove full of trees had hit a tree, tossed him out and broke his leg. While the then Water Patrolman and I were getting information a large ski boat pulling a tuber pulled into the cove, made a big loop and back out. We were waiting for the crash but it never happened.
