woodman Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I'm all caught up with cabinet jobs, ready to get away from all these local lakes I have been fishing the heck out of......Back to clear water and smallmouth. This week , any one interested?....... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
fishinwrench Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 If you see a pair of fly fishers, or a fly rodder and a yellow dog in a red Old Town that'll be me. Gonna try to hit it tomorrow actually. Just doing Green Ford to Bannister I think.
woodman Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 I havent been since last year with all that green algie......And above Howards ford the chanel had changed....Looking forward to seeing any more changes with all the new bridges they did a few yrs back..... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
woodman Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 Has anyone gone from Mule Shoe 11 miles to Griswald Ford? I'll bet it is pretty flat..... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
fishinwrench Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I've only Google mapped that stretch, it doesn't look very appealing, but that may just be my interpretation. I only fish from Grizwald down.
GloryDaze Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Has anyone gone from Mule Shoe 11 miles to Griswald Ford? I'll bet it is pretty flat..... Yep, I did a trip report in the "Niangua river" section a few years ago. Would never do it again, skinny water, too many portages, etc.... here is a link to the report http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/topic/29025-little-niangua-trip-report/ Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
woodman Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 I thought as much....A few years ago when they were starting the bridge project....there were a group of conservation guys at Mule Shoe,.. snorkling and checking out the fish down stream.....These were young guys, they said there were some real nice fish in there.... Also I have never been from Bannister to Fiery Fork....... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
fishinwrench Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Odds are you'll only do the stretch from Bannister to Fiery once. It is a 1/2 mile of pretty water scattered among 5 miles of yuck. If it wasn't for the long island dividing the river at Blue spring it would be lots better.
drew03cmc Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Wrench, you are correct. Below Bannister, it feels like lake water for two miles, then a mile of quality with quality fish and another two miles of crap. If you can see the access at Fiery Fork, that is a good thing too. There is no marking or signage denoting the access. The fishing in that middle mile is pretty good, but above Bannister is just as good and there's not a 2 mile lull before and after the quality water. I have yet to float above Howard's Ford, but it is on my list. Andy
fishinwrench Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 It didn't fish very well today, water is low and for some reason it is kinda murky everywhere except below the springs. I caught a bunch of little ones but nothing hefty. The springs are really pumping out the volume now....which is a good sign. I guess the groundwater is still in good shape. Lots of my favorite holes have changed with the floods, that kinda bummed me out. Smalliebigs, Flysmallie, Mitch f and 2 others 5
