marcus Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 well havent been to mark twain in a while and decided to give it a go sunday and didnt set very high expectations but things went well we got on the water 30 min after sun up we put in around indian creek and fished for bass with my brother adam and my roomate matt(smallie seeker) we all tied up something diffrenent but the first fish came off a white spinnerbait in timber a nice fat healthy 17 inch bass caught by matt then a couple warmouths here and there then i decided to tie up a silver rattle trap for my brother since he cant really fish well i decided to get him on a reaction bait then he nailed a 15 incher boom it was on we only fished 20 min and 2 keepers already after another hour i finally said lets crappie fish since we got some minnows and we caught like 50 crappie mid day between the minnows and a pink jig matt never gave up on since hes to good to fish with minnows anyways after crappie fishing for a while matt hooked up with a flathead catfish he fought for 30 min the it finally broke him off he only had 4 lb line and a crappie rod anyways after getting burnt out on 95% non keeper crappie we went back to bass fishing and caught a couple more keepers i got a nice 15 incher on a lizard just cause i havent tied one on in years and it worked well had alot of bites on it then matt hooked up a nice 4.5 pounder on a green wackey worm then we pretty much called it a night after trying to see if we could sneak up on some deer with the trolling motor seemed we saw alota deer movement that day too on the corps property all and all it was a fun day and it looks like ill be back next weekened ! all our crappie came from arouns 20-40 ft of water suspened 10-15 ft all the bass were tight to cover in the timber deep and shallow!!!!! marcus Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 were gonna go back sunday and ill do another updated report seems like it has a good ecosystem for the most part.I really gave up on the place the past couple years, but now i wanna put my time in there again this fall since its close to home
Haris122 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Cool stuff. When I went with some friends last fall, I tried what Matt did, and only fish with lures. Couldn't get squat. Finally gave in and used minnows, and got one Crappie. We made it to another spot and then I got 3-4 more on a crank bait. That was it when I went. I think I learned how to better fish for Crappie since then, so I've been wanting to go up there to redeem myself ever since. Now that I saw your report it might be pretty soon I do that now.
mjk86 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Awesome report! Never thought about bass fishing twain before great fish! marcus and Smallie Seeker 2
Haris122 Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Anyone know if Mark Twain has any restrictions on using a kayak to fish from? I know Lake of the Ozarks seemed very restrictive on where one could use a canoe or kayak at, but I'm hoping that was only due to the excessive amount of pleasure boaters. I don't recall seeing anything at Mark Twain prohibiting it at the Ray Behrens boat ramp, that one time I went there before but I figure it doesn't hurt to check twice. I know the general idea is kind of crazy/stupid/whatever given the size of the lake but it's not like I would try to cover anywhere near the amount of water in it, that one would in a boat, I just think it would still be a bigger guarantee at some success than just fishing from shore. Also, do you have to pay the fee to put in the kayak, like any other boat if you decide to put in tthere?
