It's laughable to even think that the reason for the decline is because Nixon Merged the Highway and Water Patrol. That's hilarious. I don't hang out on that lake but my sister and BIL have a boat on the lake and they barely took it out last year due to water conditions. Less people on the water equals less drinking on the water.

It is not laughable at all What the patrol done was take the money to operate the water patrol and put it in the Hwy Patrol. Took the man power off the water and put it on roads. I live here 24 7 now for over 20 years. I know how it was. Your sister and BIL. Did not does not mean anyone else did not.

i have been around Piecy. he is a snide, aloft acting, smart mouthed individual. hIs reputation around here was 3 levels lower than whale crap as we used to say in USN.

The whole merger was in my opinion very poorly handled.  The MSHP could easily have merged the MSHP into their organization and still kept it a separate division, and mostly intact.   Two branches, one overall command, not rocket science.

in agree with  that fully. They sure did not. I am convinced it was intentional to suck up to the bar owners and help the drunks that run around here. There was alway pressure on the water patrol through the state house about ignoring those "just having fun" What Nixon done was just a slicker way. i suppose it was easy for him. . He is slimey anyway.

When I first started coming ou here the bars were closed at night. Now they are open till the state wide closing time. You see itvwas notvgood enough to to have blind drunks  running around all day. They had to let them run boats when in the dark.

True, but at least progress is being made.  I didn't even think they were going to file charges in the first place so to me I guess justice is rolling in the right direction.  Agreed that a slap on the wrist will not be justice.  Hopefully a jury will convict him in the end with a sentence that will serve justice.

Assuming it goes to trial, and I don't think it will, but does the state pay for his representation/defense, or are his lawyer fees coming from his own personal estate ?

MSHP ordered to pay $5,000 and attorney fees, that will teach them a lesson.

"As long as you are wearing that uniform, you’ll testify the way you are told.”  That statement right there if accurate is about as wrong as it gets.  Sergeant Henry is about the only individual in this whole sad affair I have much respect for.

Makes ya wonder how many "mistakes" like that it would take to put them out of business.

Also makes ya wonder how many cases have been covered up SUCCESSFULLY.  Because I'm sure Piercy isn't the first trooper to screw up real bad, and probably won't be the last.

I have a gut feeling that the toxicology report was skewed, because if the kid was truly three-sheets to the wind he wouldn't have been winning at volleyball less than 1 hour prior to being pulled over.  If you can play volleyball that well then you should be in good enough condition to drive a boat.  And apparently his friends seemed sober enough since Piercy allowed them to take control of the boat without even breath testing them.

Nasty rotten deal all the way around.
