m&m Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Well, after reading all the posts about the WP, i finally got a hold of one. I tried it out on Saturday from the shore near the Patterson Duck Club's docks in the dam area. I just had a small amount of time to try it so I made only 10 casts and caught this LM and then a short KY. The thing I noticed is that both fish slammed it hard. Looking forward to using it when i can spend some time on the water. I am just happy that I found this LM in the dam area! By the way, nothing great about the casts. The fish in the picture hit near a rock pile just off shore and the KY hit off the end of the dock. I was just using a steady retrieve. Wow it kicks up some water! Mike dan hufferd and Quillback 2

Mike I threw that wretched thing Saturday until I had to take Advil because my left shoulder hurt like heck and had one half-azz swipe at it. You wing it out there 10 times off the bank and catch a nice LM and a K. I don't think I like you very much. I think the problem was that I never went below the KC bridge. big c, crazy4fishin and Ham 3
m&m Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 if it is any consolation, i went out Sunday around 11am and fished it from the Stormy Point Village boat dock and could not buy a bite for an hour. I thought with the little wind blowing into the dock I would have had better results. Oh well....it is like every other new trendy bait.....sometimes yes and sometimes no. Mike
wareaglecamo Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 don't give up on the WP . . . at this point in time, very few lures can compare . . . if you're fishing chunk rock banks and have 2 rigs in the boat, a WP and a NED, you have an awfully good chance of having a fun day of fishing . . . I will say this, topwater has always been my favorite way to fish, however, I have found with the WP that most of my success has come from boat angles, boat positions and casting angles I do not use with any other topwater I have ever fished
m&m Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 That sounds like good advice. I agree that TW is a favorite way to fish. During the summer months I have to keep 2 Ned Rigs in the boat along with a top water and a frog. the 2 Ned Rigs are because when I break one off on a fish, I am too impatient to tie a new one one with that small line. You are correct about the angles and boat positions. Most of us know about angles and boat position when it comes to dock corners but sometimes we forget it about points, lay downs, etc. Mike
big c Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Good report and Mike i love that area. We stayed at Stormy Point for a few years and bought across the cove. Since we don't venture too far at this point we have caught some nice lm in that area. Until i get down in few weeks, thanks (to all) for the reports! Unfortunately my time is spent with all the campaigners that come to Des Moines. Take care and stay safe.
