Bass Pro Shops joins as title sponsor of the Big Bass Tour

The nations premier big bass tournament series welcomes Bass Pro Shops as its new title sponsor under a multi year agreement. The 2016 Bass Pro Shops Big Bass Tour presented by Huk Performance Fishing will feature ten events in nine states with stops at some of the nations best bass fisheries. The 2016 season will feature over $1 Million in guaranteed prizes and payouts with events in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

"We are excited to kick off 2016 with Bass Pro Shops as our new title sponsor," said Mark Jones with Big Bass Tour. "Bass Pro Shops has partnered with the Tour since 2010 and we are looking forward to what this enhanced relationship has in store for the anglers competing in our events.”

Bass Pro Shops immediate impact will be felt in additional prize payouts along with an upgraded grand prize Nitro Z18 performance bass boat. In addition, the Tour will feature registration activations around key Big Bass Tour venues throughout the year.

“Since its inception, the Big Bass Tour has shown significant growth to a key demographic of the Bass Pro Shops consumer,” said John Acosta, Director of Marketing at Bass Pro Shops. “We are thrilled to expand our partnership through the entitlement of the Big Bass Tour. The format and activation strategy provides Bass Pro Shops with a terrific platform to showcase our destination stores, promote the great brands we carry, and get more people out on the water fishing!"

The Big Bass Tour is the nation’s premier amateur big bass tournament series. Established in 2010 the Tour is focused on the promotion of bass fishing and bass conservation at the grass roots level through our tournament events. I think they will be fine.

I saw that the other day when the link was sent to my phone to register for the upcoming 2016 events. They gained Huk as a sponsor and I am assuming Bass Pro is poney'ing up more dough than in years past.  Looks like Quantum is also out and Shimano is in (free rod will now be a Shimano). Oakley is still a sponsor but I guess taking a backseat. I don't see Toyota as a sponsor this year and usually them and BPS are hand in hand. Either way it's all good.

Yes, BPS has moved to tile sponsor of the Tour with Huk as presenting.  Oakley still a Tour sponsor.  It was an awesome run the last 6 years with Oakley as our naming partner and we can't thank them enough.  Lot's of changes this off season but all for the better.  2016 is going to be a big year.

Last year's grand prize was a Nitro Z8, which is a 20-foot, 1-inch boat with a 96-inch beam rated for a 250 hp engine. Its base price on the Nitro website is $36,595. This 2016 grand prize is a Z-18, which is an 18-8 boat with a 94-inch beam rated for a 175. Its base price on the website is $28,595.

Upgraded, you say?

That quote is related to the overall Tour not just the Table Rock event.  All 10 events boats will be Z18's in 2016.  The value of the Z18 with the options we have on it is $33k.  Thanks gents.

The news release says "upgraded grand prize Nitro Z18 performance bass boat."

Not "boats."

Why should your typical participant care about the collective grand prize value for all 10 events?

BPS marketing spin doesn't work on everyone.

Man, five years ago when you'd make some grumpy post on one of my feeds I used to cringe.  Now it's this annual tradition that I've come to cherish and it warms my heart to see you here staying consistent.

So as always, here goes nothing.

Our typical participant cares primarily about the overall hourly payouts and number of paid places.  I know this because I ask them every year and they tell me.  So there's no marketing spin just the simple use of data and feedback from our customer base to determine what they think is best for the Tour.  Last time I checked, and I do every year, I haven't seen you on the registration list so not sure how your opinion counts here...

As we looked at the overall increase in Bass Pro's participation we looked at the entire Tour and how that would affect boats, hourly cash and number of paid places.  It's a solid increase to our anglers over 2015 across all of our events and as we run our business we prefer to look at the bigger picture rather than a siloed event by event approach.  We are operating a Tour not a series of one off events from a budgeting standpoint.  We've been at this now since 2010 so I think we have a pretty good handle on what's best for our business.

Thanks again for your interest in our events and I look forward to seeing you on Table Rock this spring.  As I recall you were just praising us a couple of months ago for the move up.  At some point you're going to have to pick a side and stay there. :)  Here's the link to registration.  I'll be waiting.... www.bigbasstour.com

Appreciate the feedback.

Mark, I should know after a career in journalism that there's no reason to argue with a marketing guy, but here goes my one-and-done shot at it ...

How many people follow your entire "tour?" I would venture to guess that not even ONE person fished every event last year or in any previous year. So to the staff, perhaps it's a tour. To 99.999 percent of your anglers, it's a one-off event. Therefore, they couldn't give a flip less about your total payout for the year.

My original point was and remains: Your news release is, at the very least, potentially misleading. It says "boat" and doesn't even allude to the fact that you're talking about a total prize purse for the tour/year. What most of your anglers will see is a smaller grand prize of lesser value at whichever event they fish.

That's it. I have no personal issue with you. It's no secret that I don't care for BPS, but that's another matter entirely.

Didn't say I'd changed my mind about fishing your event. No, I haven't registered yet. Hoping I'm off the unemployment roll in time for Donna and I to do so. Newspaper business ain't what it used to be.

We only do one press release for the entire Tour, not 10 individual releases, so there's nothing misleading about it. To answer your other question, yes most of our anglers are between one and three events per year.  However as I mentioned, they do give a flip about increased hourly payouts and deeper paid places and the grand prize is only one item vs the other 140 opportunities they have to cash a check.

Hope you guys get the job situation worked out.  Look forward to seeing you in the spring.
