Members Capt Scotty Posted November 21, 2015 Members Posted November 21, 2015 Went out and walked the Navarre Pier and there was a bunch of people hooking up on Black Tip Sharks. Here is some pics. Tight Lines jtram, Johnsfolly and trythisonemv 3
JestersHK Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Nice! hooked into a nice black tip in March of last year in Destin. I heard they were good eating, but I cut this one off as I was leaving that morning to head back. Was free lining a cigar minnow for kings when he smoked the rod. They put up a good fight.
Flysmallie Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 They keep scaring me. The last two years at Fort Morgan I have had close encounters with blacktips while fishing the surf. Both times they seemed just as scared of me as I was of them but they didn't leave as much crap in the water when they left.
JestersHK Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah surf fishing at night I would wade out up to my waist to try and get my cast out into the 2nd trough... The first time something bumped my leg I decided I didn't need to wade that far out anymore at night LOL. Another great story was while in SC just south of Myrtle beach My oldest daughter was around 8 at the time and I told her to stick close to me while we were body boarding. I told her there were sharks, and she kind of shrugged it off as dad being Mr. protective dad. Next day we were Pier fishing and under the cleaning station about a 8 or 9 foot Tiger Shark surfaced. Pier was well within site of our Beach access her eyes got as big as saucers LOL. That night I caught sharks right from the beach where we were swimming during the day. She stays allot closer to me now when we go boarding.
Flysmallie Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 It's crazy the numbers of them that are cruising the beach amongst the swimmers. They really don't care to bite you. A couple of years ago we were out boarding and a shark had been cruising back in forth just out past all the people. He made a turn and came in a little closer than usual and inevitably somebody spotted it and it and started running down the beach screaming SHARK! I had my GoPro so I tried to get in front of him to get a video. But every time I moved to a point to intersect he would turn out a bit farther. He had no interest in me. Then I went to the shore and chewed the people out who were still screaming shark. No need for that. Like I said, I've had two really come close to check me out at sunrise. Close enough to touch. And when both realized I was a person they were gone in a big hurry.
JestersHK Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah folks don't realize how close they get to them. I remember seeing an ariel video of a whole school of them right off shore. I absolutely love sharks and was a shark fanatic as a kid. Love catching them when I get the chance. I've taught my kiddos that they must be respected like everything else that can potentially harm you, but to not have the unnecessary fear of them being blood thirsty man eaters and purposefully attacking you. Taught them the same thing with snakes, spiders, and other critters. Irrational fear I could never really understand. Wife still freaks out that the girls will play with a spider or a snake when they find one, but she also is one who will not go swimming in the ocean due to sharks LOL.
