I recently read the post by John Neporadny Jr.  on holiday fishing at LOZ. I was wandering if any of you guys out there no where one would go to target some of these hybrids at LOZ in the fall as he states in this article, Sounds like fun and something different to do next fall, Just not sure where I would start on the lake, A few years back I did accidentally  catch one by mistake crappie fishing in the spring with a small spinner, probably went 5-6 lbs, buy have never specifically targeted for them, I caught that one on the long shelf bank all the way around the corner from coffman beach before you get to that small island in the lake heading towards the dam, any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

I haven't targeted them much on LOZ but I would focus on wind blown main lake points and chunk rock banks on or near the main lake. Throw topwaters, jerkbaits, a-rigs, and crankbaits (all in shad/baitfish patterns).

Caught a big one this summer on a long tapering point that was loaded with streaking fish on my depth finder and had several whites as well.

Seems like in the fall while we are crappie fishing if you hit a stretch of bank with no docks and wind hitting well they will be there often mixed in with some nice whites.  Lots of fun on a crappie rod.

Would you say that these hybrids are more scattered than whites on the lake, I was hoping to get a little more detailed info as to maybe one section of the lake or another, but if main lake points is pretty much it, well sounds like search and find mission, one may have to just take some extra time off to try and achieve the goal of finding them, pretty much stick with the whites and hope you run into some, thanks a bunch & good luck fishing

We had a really good run of them in the Gravois back in 2009-11 but only a few lingerers since.

Your best odds are in the Ha Ha Tonka area, and the upper Osage.   I don't think MDC is stocking them regularly on this lake any more. Just occasionally.

Hop over the dam into Truman and they are quite thick 6-12 pounders are pretty regular. Not sure why they don't stock LO better, we definitely have the shad to support them.

There are quite a few in the lake but they move A LOT and tend to shy away in clearer water and stay deep until late in the day.  Probably why Wrench doesn't see many in the Gravi nowadays.  Fall with a good wind is a great time to catch them shallow; they were stacked up pretty good on the north shore of horseshoe bend by the "new" bridge over Thanksgiving.  The water was colored up there and they were right on the banks with the whites.  In clear water you have to go deep or wait until the sun dips for them to get shallow and then they will come all the way up with the shad.

Good luck!

Target the whites.  The hybrids run with them.  It's a numbers game.  Catch enough whites and you'll stumble into the hybrids.  The windblown points and banks advice in the fall is gold.

I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
