cheesemaster Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 How far down the James River has it froze over the years? Has the whole lake ever froze solid? I have seen pictures of many coves and edges of the main lake frozen but don't know if it has ever been locked up.
Champ188 Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 That question would probably be best left to some of our members who qualify for senior citizens discounts at the local steakhouse. Babler, you're up. Ranger Z22, rps and crazy4fishin 3
dtrs5kprs Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 If you look back a couple of winters in the forum you will see some pics of quite a bit of ice around Bridgeport. Otherwise not much besides banklines in coves.
dtrs5kprs Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 No problem. It's too far south and too big to freeze up. Couple of years ago was the most cold weather and ice in quite a while. Most years even cove ice is iffy. Ramps can be a little dodgy in cold weather though, especially if you are not first out.
GNSfishing Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I've seen it froze up down to Piney and I bet it has frozen past there. So it does freeze if the weather stays below zero for any length of time and it takes an ice breaker to get in at the ramps at Cape Fair and to be able to go anywhere. 2 years ago I fished a tournament out of Cape Fair and had to break 1 to 2 inch thick ice to get past Buzzard. So the river arms do freeze at times.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 about 10 years ago my Brother had a big sailboat in Kimberling on an end slip that sat in 30 feet of water and he has pictures of him standing on the ice next to his boat.
cheesemaster Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Wow. I figured it might have a skim ice but nothing you could stand on.

aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Well he was gripping the ladder on the back of the boat. Granted it wasnt safe but very suprised it was thick enough to stand on
