Please not another word about the MUDBUG !!!!!!! Without a doubt " WORST LURE EVER " !!!!!!! Please don't waste your time on the water with them. Why do you think they quit making them ??????? If you happen to find any " RUN AWAY & DON'T LOOK BACK " !!!!!!! Not a lure you want to be seen with or talk about to anyone, as we will all make fun of you for owning one & / or talking about them.

I'm with the others ... you've got yourself an old wooden Bomber. The one pictured here was offered for sale online for $15.

Mudbugs were Arbogast baits. Those have more craw detail. They are plastic, but an odd plastic, kind of like some old Christmas ornaments.

I keep a box of both, tweaked with split rings and modern hooks. The mudbug throws a little better, and seems like it was designed more for casting vs trolling. Some wood Bombers are very collectible, some are baits to fish with, others are pretty much ruined due to swelling and cracking of the wood. Once water gets at them they start to slide down the scale.

A white Bomber (or Christmas tree like the pic wrench posted) can be good when fish are on a shad bite on flats and points. Especially for whites. I would rather have the mudbug for fishing cover. It's a good option instead of a wart, especially for cranking wood.

Since you seem to be a big lure collector do you know anyone up here at LOZ does that. I have a friend up here has betweensomewhere over 13,000 I would think you knew who he is. I do not put friends names on here. If you know him just say yes.

Plug...I'm less of a collector than a connoisseur. Most of my old baits were bought to throw at fish. Certainly the case with my bombers and mudbugs. Only baits I really collect are old Bagley's, and largely for the colors. I have a few other odds and ends that I picked up because they are unique, or important to the history of lure development in some way. Have never gone to any of the shows or such.

Great lures.  I have a box of old ones.  My grandpa would troll them with a 3 way rig.  A short leader to the plug and a long leader to a nungesser spoon.  It worked!

i will say the bill looks like a bomber, but if you look at the body, it is much fatter in design than a wood bomber.  i still have several wood bombers, and when held to the posted pic, they do not have as much of a bloated football body as the lure in question.  so, unless some of the very first wood bombers were different than the ones i have from the 60's, i am not sure what brand it is.  i wonder if it is possible that the wood has swelled up??
