Cindyjo Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I knew this day would come again. Fishing has been exceptional....until today. Went out at 9:00 this morning and fished until 11:00. 2 fish...I repeat 2 fish and one was a catfish! Could not locate schools on the sonar. This has happened in the past. And always raises the question "where do they go". I looked deep, shallow and everywhere in between! They simply disappear. So not to be stymied by simple fish I decided to go out again this afternoon. Revenge would be sweet. Fished from 2 - 5. I thought for sure fortune (mis) would reverse and I would with all my intellect show those simple fish just how foolish they are. Yes, I was the one who was fooled. After 3 hours of fishing I outdid my morning trip......I caught 1. 1 whole 13" spotted bass after 3 hours of fishing. I gave up a nice power nap for 1 fish! But I know this will again reverse. Staying with the discipline of finding the schools on the edge of the old riverbed, tracking with sonar, zeroing in with precise casts, and counting always counting the drop of the spoon will yield more 30 - 40 fish days. I always know how deep the water is below the boat using sonar. I always know how deep the water is when my spoon hits the bottom. And they are rarely the same. Every cast I count 1, 2, 3 until my line goes slack. 2 feet per second. Cast, count, bring it up that bank and slam!!! Isn't fishing grand. Good luck to you on your next trip. shark bait, cheesemaster and 176champion 3

This sounds like my typical fishing outing...last time out not even a bite...lol I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
merc1997 Bo Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 this is why it is still called fishing and not catching. most likely the shad are relocating and it can take a week for them to do so, and the bass to move with them. bo
m&m Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Cindyjo, sounds like you hit THAT day. You know the one between the phrase, "you should have been here yesterday" and "They will really be biting tomorrow" I seem to pick THAT day a lot. Mike 176champion 1
Bill Babler Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 For most of us big bite days are really sweet, but most all are followed by very down days, especially if we return to the same location we had the slam fest on the day before. Very, very seldom if ever do if fish the same location on consecutive days, especially deep fish. Just not a lot of profit in it. Give them 3 or 4 days and they usually get back to their angry selves. That's why the Rock is very hard for most of the play for pay guys. Locations here don't reload, they either move or sulk. You need several good patterns or really the same pattern in different locations to do well on this pond. Good Luck, look at something new today.
