Brian Jones Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Anyone know the current status on the proposed Smallmouth regulation changes? Just received an email from the MDC with the January commission meeting agenda and there was nothing slated in regards to the changes.
Dan Kreher Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I believe the MDC is still assembling and organizing the public input from meetings in the fall. I will inquire with fisheries chief if he can give me an update. Thanks. Brian Jones 1
Brian Jones Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Thanks Dan. I was hoping you would see this.
Dan Kreher Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 I received this note today from MDC Fisheries Chief Brian Canaday. It will be interesting to see if sufficient public input was received to potentially modify any of the MDC's proposed regs. Regarding potential changes to the MDC's proposal, MSA was most interested in keeping the 18" MLL on the middle Gasconade and have the regs on lower Big Piney conform to those rather than go the 15/1 regs as MDC proposed. It would also be nice to see the 18" reg remain on the upper Jacks Fork as I don't believe folks are clamoring for that limit to be liberalized. We shall see where this goes. We are currently summarizing the public input that has been received on the proposals. Once that information is summarized and available, it will be posted on our public webpage and I will forward you the link. We will use this public input to develop a final set of recommendations for the MDC Regulations Committee, Department Administration and the Conservation Commission to consider. We are tentatively scheduled to present to the MDC Regulations Committee in early August 2016, then the Conservation Commission in late August. If approved to move forward, the proposal will be published in the Missouri Register in early October 2016 for a 30 day public comment period. This is the official rule making process. I will make sure to keep you informed of that official comment period. If everything stays on track, we will have new/revised smallmouth bass and rock bass regulations on the books and effective as of March 1, 2017.
joeD Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Governmentspeak at its best. Called it from a mile away (look at my posts if you don't believe me). Dan K is a saint, no question. Yet, the MDC says We are currently summarizing the public input that has been received Once that information is summarized and available We will use this public input to develop a final set of recommendations for the MDC Regulations Committee, Department Administration and the Conservation Commission to consider. Another committee? Another Commission? Missouri Register? And Missouri smallmouth anglers should be happy...why? Because things are being...what? Considered? Summarized? Recommended? (Yes Joe!) Okay. Progress, right? Smalliebigs 1
fishinwrench Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Allow me to show you how easy this is..... Give me a topic of concern, just make something up, and I'll convince you that I care deeply about it and am working hard on the best solution.
joeD Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 That sounds vaguely cynical Wrench. And sarcastic. You, sir, are dangerously close to encroaching on my turf. And no one likes me, so, buyer beware. Deadstream 1
fishinwrench Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Oh I challenge you to appear more cynical than I. I wrote the book on it. Deadstream 1
Deadstream Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 My wife would disagree wrench. Not going to start that.
