Did you use the Razors Edge hook sharpener? I have one. It puts the Trokar type edge on the hooks. It makes them scary sharp but the edge gets rolled over too quick.

The instructional video that came with it was so corny I can't even describe it. At one point in the video the guy looks at the camera with a straight face and says "Do not attempt to use this if you've been drinking or using drugs!"

I used a file. Tom Seward had an article in In Fisherman back in the 80s on crankbaits. He designed a bunch, think the hot lips express was one, maybe the brush baby. Anyway, he used a file to put a triangle on the hook, sort of following the factory lines. Done properly, it reduces the barb, eliminates any rough spots leading from the point to the barb. I used to sharpen all my jig, worm, , hard bait, and spinnerbait hooks that way. Sharp as the dickens. Can't really do it with a modern needle point.

I used to have one of the Doug Hannon deals with the rotating sharpening stones. Didn't think much of it.

I use the Razors Edge on guys at the ramp that aren't catch and release.
