Trav Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I bought a travel trailer back in April and have lived in it ever since. I bounce around from camp to camp. Anybody else live this way? I have been from coast to coast with this camper.. dont think i am done with it anytime soon. jig&pig, Chief Grey Bear and Daryk Campbell Sr 3 "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson

MOPanfisher Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Lots of short term volunteer jobs out there, can get free camping in exchange for 20 or so hrs a week of work. Trav 1
Trav Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Am thinking the volunteer thing for next winter. I am dragging around my canoe. Kind of important to be able to get off shore in Florida. I will be back in the Ozarks this summer. Looks like May until October I will be helping my father remodel a house in Urbana. Doesn't hurt to have free parking as well... haha "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Gavin Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Father in law traveled for 17 years with Granny on a 40' Sailboat. Enjoy your trip! Trav 1
Trav Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 I usually spend a week or so at each campground. Camping is boring. Bouncing around is not every ones idea of fun. It is fun for us boring guys who like the changes. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Trav Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 There are a lot of "tricks" and "lessons" you learn living on the road. "Lesson" number one... always reserve your camps at least 6 months in advance. Learned this the hard way on our trip to Washington state. Let's say there were more than a few nights in a walmart parking lot. By the way, walmart is "trick" number one. You can always stay at a walmart for a night. This reality was probably the biggest disappointment I have found living the gypsy life. The idea everything especially our national parks is reserved to the point you can't actually live life spontaneous anymore. The days of loading up the camper and driving from place to place with out an agenda is over folks. You have to make plans or expect plenty of nights in parking lots. I have already started reservations for next winter for florida. It is slim pickings down here if you don't jump months ahead. MOPanfisher Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 That is true Trav. Especially at the lakes, if you don't reserve then quite often you don't camp. Especially true on holiday weekends, and it does reduce the number of "problem campers" for us. The days of hey it looks nice lets get some, week, our tent and a few cases of beer and go camping at the lake on July 4th weekend are long gone on many lakes and popular areas. We have several retired couples who work or volunteer for us. Some have pointedly explained that "My wife works for you, occasionally I volunteer for her", otherwise I go fishing. Some spouses aren't quite so accommodating. Trav 1
