I charge my batteries but I also run them hard  as I fish flats

i know  serious fisherman are on this forum so

my question is who had the best batteries today

I'd like to here about the different brands and make a smart decision

i heard of  a gel type at bps   I went there and the boys didn't no anything about them and when I looked I didn't see any ??

I went to Battery Outfitters way out on South Campbell. Got one of their Pro Series for a start battery and went with the Trojan brand for my trolling motor. All are sealed.

So far so good but only had them since back in the spring. I run the trolling motor hard Sat. and it still had plenty of go at the end of the day. I believe I could have run them another day if I had to. 1800 Lund with a Terrova 80

I can't remember exactly what I paid but it was around $200 each plus tax.

You didn't say a price point but,  "AGM" batteries will out last "wet cells" 2 to 1 and they are about $350ea.. But, if you are looking for "VERY TOP OF THE LINE" go with the

"LITHIUM" batteries ... They are warranty is an incredible four years or 800 cycles BUT !!!! they run $1,999 ea....

Here are a couple of links of battery types.....

The last boat I had while tournament fish -- I used AGM's and at the end of the year they were still as strong as at the start.....

All that being said... I am currently running two of the biggest marine batteries that Wally-World sells and I can troll all day with my Xi-5 and still have 25-30% left....

They are $125ea.

Gotta go with Zarra on this. No comparison to the AGM. Battery Plus Bulbs sells the top of the line Northstar batteries (AGM),

The basic X2 power battery (NSB 3100002) is 100 amphours and sells for $380.

The best one is the High Rate AGM (NSB 125) at 128 amphours. They sell for $420.

I have used these exclusively for 12 years now and still have some of my original purchase from that time. There is several things to make your batteries last longer.

Don't run them below 11 Volts (they precipitate sulfur (called sulfonation))

Don't let them go below 45 F and don't ever charge at over 14 Volts. All three of these cause sulfonation and decreased battery function. I rum 2 in series so I don't have to worry about the 11 Volt issue, in winter I wrap the batteries with heat tape and then insulation and I charge at 2 or 10 amp.  I would recommend what ever you buy invest on a good charger with a desulfonation cycle. I have found it will bring back about 80% of the bad batteries. Well worth the money.

I hear the lithiums are great but that they can get too hot during the summer charge and I have seen what lithium battery explosions look like. Many time worse than a regular battery. Much has been done to make them safer in recent years though. Any time I think about buying one my wallet threatens to divorce me.  :D

Great data Straw Hat.....

The only thing I do different is ---

I have a "thermal" plug that turns on at 35 degrees and off at 42 degrees and I have a 40 light bulb ( NOT energy efficient ) plugged in to the thermal plug..

It keeps my batteries and the back sump area above freezing, encase I didn't get all the water out of my lines...

I think I gave about $7-8 for it 12 years ago... I used this set up on my motor home for 7 years to keep my water pump and lines from freezing....

I run two series 31 AGM batteries made by Duracell(110 ah) with my 80 Ulterra and they have performed well - I was able to pick them up at Sam's club for $179 each...

I have been running Optima Blue tops for 4 years.  I pull a heavy glittersled with a MG TE 82.  They have never showed any sign of weakening during the day not matter how windy it is.

Appreciate the info  fellows

Ya  Zara   Wealth of knowlendge every time thanks  I appreciate this

how ever I can't afford the 4000.00

but lithium sounds like awesome power

are optima s light ?

i  know my batteries were 3 but my charger always said 100 percent    I put a new tour 82 on last spring (mostly for a quiet bracket) and  they always seemed spongy and drain hard  since

are Agm batteries seriously better when I read online they suggest 15-30 percent longer battery life?

My champion sled  doesn't have room for another  battery  or I would choose this as well ?

i may also look into a onboard charger of some sort ?

Seems like everyone has great success with different  types and brands   I appreciate the info

The last 2 sets of batteries that I purchased have been the group 29 deep cycles from Wal Mart. I am running a 36 volt Motorguide digital. I plug in the on board charger religiously after every outing and have got 4 years out of each set.

I run 31 series AGM batteries.  I originally got them for my 5th wheel.  Used them for a year with no-hook up camping.....keeping them charged with a solar panel charger.  I have since moved them to my boat.  I keep a 1.5a battery tender on them when I am not fishing.....these are the best batteries I've run.  I bought them at Sam's Club for about $260 each.  Completely Sealed, NO MAINTENANCE, durable and hold a charge.
