Battery suggestions

Here is part of an article from Bassmasters on boat batteries ---

 " The most important thing you can do is charge your batteries — regardless of type — as soon as you return from fishing. If you let batteries sit under partial charge for long periods of time, you will see a drop in their performance because of sulfation, and there will be a drop in the longevity of the batteries as well."

 

I charge mine EVERY time as soon as I get home and it has almost doubled the life of the Wal-Mart batteries, that I use.....

Get the cheapest marine battery that walmart sells, everstart or something...then replace them EVERY year.  Expensive batteries...are just that, expensive batteries...they all get worse and worse every year no matter how much you paid for them.  Better to just swap em out.

Ok    My boat is always inside shop     when I say interested in onboard charger  I mean something to charge while I fish   

From what I read I'd have to  run the lake for  a hour at wide open throttle to charge them ?

i would want something different I beleive

This one says only 30 minutes with a 40amp alternator and you only need to run enough RPM for full alternator output-- On my 175 merc  it is about 1900-2000 rpms ..

Excellent.  I'll have to figure this out.      I'd like to do something about this   

Wonder what the difference is in just running a power inverter from main battery  to the on board charger ?

Oh boy, here we go again

Not gonna argue it but just so you can't say you were never warned.....  Using your outboard charging system to "help maintain" your TM batteries is a bad idea.   Outboard stators and voltage regulators are designed to maintain the cranking battery ONLY, and an overheated VR will cost you a hell of a lot more than a pair of batteries will.  

But by all means do as you wish, after all us outboard techs have bills to pay too.
