bkbying89 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Mreed81 and I hit up BSC today and I have to say Matt nows his creek. I went down early and was only able to land one small one and loose another. When Matt showed up we started back up the creek and the very first hole we hit, bang I have a 12 to i3 inch trout. I may not have been able to catch or land it without Matts help. By the way, if anyone finds a landing net on Blue Spring Creek It's probably mine. I am bumming as I was financially tied to that net. Thanks for the tour Matt your are the Man. You let me have the first crack and I got the big fish of the day. BilletHead, trythisonemv, Johnsfolly and 2 others 5
mreed81 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 It was a fun few hours on the creek, and a good way to spend a Monday afternoon! And good Lord I need to buy a sling pack. All that gear that is stuffed to the gills is about to burst a seam in my vest! LOL (of course when I first started fly fishing last Fall I had nowhere near the amount of junk that I do now) bkbying89, BilletHead and trythisonemv 3
bkbying89 Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 I know what you mean. I think that when my net fell off I must have just thought "whew the vest isn;t as heavy as when I started out, Must be getting tougher." On a whim, I drove back out and tried to retrace my steps and look for my net. But no luck, And dopey me I didn't even take my rod. I was afraid I would get distracted by the fishing. And I would have. The wind wasn't that bad after all. and the water looked good.
Eric82 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I bought a sling pack last year and I can't imagine fishing without it. So much more freedom of motion. bkbying89 and mreed81 2
Flysmallie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I bought a really nice sling/waist pack this year and love it. I haven't wore a vest in many many years because of the bulkiness of them. The most beneficial thing to do is only carry what you need. And be really honest with yourself when picking out what you truly need. The less you have to worry about the more enjoyable your day will be. mreed81, bkbying89 and Johnsfolly 3

I have to hold back with what I "want" when I step into the fly shop and only pick up the one or two things that I actually need. It looks worse than it is, mainly because it is packed in a very unorganized fashion. I just need to consolidate a few packs of things into one and that would eliminate a lot of the bulkiness as well, but I am looking at different sling packs now, especially with warmer weather coming this summer.
jtram Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Check out the Umpqua ledges packs. I have a 650 and it's HUGE. Great for a long day but the 500 would be good for most days. Flysmallie and mreed81 2
Flysmallie Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Good info jtram. I bought the 500 and it's plenty big for any day for me. Check Sierra Trading Post. I picked up the 500 for $45.
