did u hear turkeys gobbling on the lake yeasterday?......nice report sounds like u had a fun day

Picked up my Spring Tag yesterday Marcus... we have been hearing a bunch of gobblers back in Big Bay. I have never hunted down there but am planning on setting up here in 2 or 3 weeks to try and get one. I have taken a lot of Turkeys, but all have been in Kansas on farms. This will be my first attempt to take one in the woods, should be interesting. I actually saw a nice one roost right next me to last weekend while fishing, so I know right where he is .

My plan is to set up 2 hens and 1 Wimpy Jake about half way up the mountain in a clearing and call just a little bit to see if I can drive any action. Any pointers for me?

I drive through Dardenne bottoms everyday.  For the past 3 weeks there would be 20 to 40 birds out there at first and last light.

Now I don't see them then but I see them at lunch time.  I pulled over and watched a gobbler cut a hen out the group and I think there will baby's soon.

I just thought it was interesting that they were out mid day now.

Good luck.

We threw one for a bit, no fish.  Did not really commit to it, probably should have.

Understand, most anglers use what they have to most confidence in myself included. I remember when football jig came out and would try and try then give up and put it down. Then finally it clicked and and now I use it every trip with lots of confidence. I've always said best bait in your box is the one you have the most confidence in because you'll fish it the best.

Hammer - tied on my first Carolina Rig this weekend after reading your post a few days ago - much like you said I only threw it a few times, it is tough to throw something without the confidence. Here is the set up I used. I felt like I would have a hard time feeling the bites. My leader off of the swivel was probably about 18 inches. Do you have trouble identifying the bite?

I use a 1/2 oz barrel weight and a 3ft leader with no beads, the leader can freely slip through, easier to feel the bites.
