model LST68MH-MFC

I was skeptical about ordering some online without holding one first, but I went ahead with it. Was looking for a rod that could serve as a multi technique rod and am happy to say I found one. The weight of this rod is much less than I expected for a graphite/glass blank. The overall finish is really slick too. At less than $100 it's a bargain.

1/4-3/4oz lipless and billed cranks,1/4 to 1 3/8oz topwaters, unweighted soft baits,3 1/2-5 1/2" jerkbaits have all fished very well on this rod. The tip has plenty of give but doesn't give too much. I was throwing a 3/8 buzzbait with it and the bass were not aggressively hitting the bait and they were able to take it under gently..  The powerful backbone was right there as soon as I set it and the hook penetrated very easily. Once hooked I was able to steer and fight kicker bass through heavy cover with the entire rod blank engaged with no signs of twisting or weird noises. This rod is definitely a Lunker Stik!

With cranks/jerks it's a winner too. Sensitivity is super imo. The blank is part Fenglass part fiberglass that can easily handle these baits. Even though it's a tough but forgiving blank with some good backbone it loads very nicely when using treble hooks and fluorocarbon line.

Lately I've been throwing weightless soft plastics with it on braid/fluoro leader. The guides aren't micro so the small knot travels through them nicely during the cast. The sensitivity is even greater now with the braided line. Could easily feel the weightless baits while crawling them across the lake bottom. No doubt when I got bit.

The HMG is one of the greatest rod blanks ever.   If not for the change in handle design I'd own a boatload of them.   They will break if you misuse them or do something stupid...but as for balance and sensitivity they are among the best, and at a moderate price.
