With more and more boats entering the lake more than any other time in the past and with all these derbies and pleasure boaters, it's not a matter of "if" an infestation will happen, it's now a matter of WHEN. That can be said with any lake. Too many irresponsible boaters out there and there's nothing we can do about it.

Zebra mussels haven't been confirmed in TR yet, but suspect it's a matter of time.  Of course I thought the same about Pomme Stockton, and Truman being so close to LOZ but no confirmations yet.  Hope they stay out.

I can't believe they haven't been confirmed in Truman yet, if what you say is true. Melvern in East-Central Kansas has them and the marais des cygnes river that flows out of the lake is what makes up the Osage river, once it meets up with the Little Osage just across the state line.

I did find this, sorry I guess I should remember better, still haven't heard of any wide spread infestations.  There were some found at Shell Osage Wildlife area I believe and the expectation is that they will travel down the Osage/Mari de cygnes, just haven't heard a confirmation.  I can find out probably.

Truman lake Cove closed for Zebra Mussel Treatment

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Missouri Department of Conservation Officials are working together to try and prevent the spread of Zebra mussels in Truman Lake.

Zebra Mussels were discovered on the Grand River Arm of Truman Lake adjacent to the Tightwad boat launching ramp earlier this month. Therefore the cove located adjacent to Sky Village known as County Line Boat Ramp will be closed beginning Sunday evening, Sept, 29 for approximately 48-72 hours in order to execute the treatment.

This is considered a point source infestation because mussels had been scraped into piles from a boat prior to the boat being launched. The cove where the Zebra mussels were discovered will be treated with copper sulfate.

It is unusual to discover adult zebra mussels in a body of water that were recently introduced and were not present in the cove prior to the introduction event. These circumstances provide a good opportunity to eradicate the zebra mussels before they become established. Most of the time zebra mussels are already established when they are discovered in a body of water.

Gotcha. I wasn't saying that I didn't believe you, more that I was just amazed if they hadn't been confirmed.

I understand.  I did do a little more checking and so far there is no official report of a population of them in Truman, even with the that incident the have been unable to confirm a population.  Not going to hold my breath, but hope they stay out.  Can't for the life of me see any reason they wouldn't thrive in Truman once established.
