Members walleyeguy Posted May 11, 2016 Members Posted May 11, 2016 My daughter teaches school in Waynesville and she would like to fish this creek from the bridge on bus. 44 bridge in Waynesville to the Casconade, what are some of the better lures since no scented bait or live bait can be used?
moguy1973 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Rooster tails are about as easy to use as it comes. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

ollie Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 There is also some nice smallies in that stretch as well! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Johnsfolly Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 There are two trout section designations for that creek. The white ribbon section is from the spring to just downstream of the water treatment facility discharge and this section gets restocked with rainbow trout throughout the year. You can fish any bait type including live bait in that section. The red ribbon section then goes the rest of the length of the creek down to the confluence of the Gasconade. As you mentioned that section does not allow for scented or live baits. The MDC does stock brown trout in that section at least once per year. The brown trout are more like the smallies that Ollie mentioned in the types of baits they like. I have had luck on 1/32 and 1/16 oz marabou jigs (white, tan or black) and small jerkbaits like the Rapala UL minnow 06. walleyeguy and bkbying89 2
Flatbottom Boy Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Im a little late on this as I dont really frequent this part of the forum. I live here in Waynesville and fish that creek pretty often. All the lures mentioned will be fine. I use a lot of jigs when I have the spinning gear. When you get into the restricted area try jerkbaits! Especially when the sun is down or going down. There are some very large browns lurking under many of the laydowns and rootwads that are scattered throughout that stretch. Dont be surprised if you hook into some really decent smallies doing this too. If you are in the mood for some crappie and bass head up stream under the I44 bridge. That pool is usually pretty good for both and it might surprise you what is in there depending on what the floods have washed in/out. Ive left there with sore arms and empty packages of senkos more than once. Have fun and good luck! Johnsfolly and bkbying89 2
Johnsfolly Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 FB - I have always focused on trout fishing and never fished above the spring and now you have me intrigued. I had a buddy fish south of I-44 and he caught a bunch of smallmouths. I just haven't got a trip scheduled to fish those areas. maybe later this summer. Thanks for the information.
