Members Hillbilly Bass Posted May 15, 2016 Members Posted May 15, 2016 I don't have a problem catching bass on Stockton, but can't get into the bigger bass. When I catch 12-15" bass I usually move out deeper but I just can't get into them. Should I fish a lot deeper? I'm lost here and it's my home lake.
dprice Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Start fishing middle waters For females entering and leaving the spawn sight many different spawn sights on Stockton they are not all the same Right now if you catch bucks you are probly close he's just cleaning bank for preeration as water gets 64-70 keep a close eye for big ones I. nhornback Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I'm in the same boat, kcchiefsfan. Was out yesterday 5/14 and caught maybe 35 bass, but only 4 were over 15 and I looked everywhere from the spawning flats to deep edges of those spawning coves. As im relatively new to fishing its hard to complain about catching fish all day but I too would love to haul in some pigs as opposed to the 14 7/8ths inch bucks I have been. Did get to enjoy the first topwater action of the year yesterday though - pictured fish hit zara spook about 3rd cast of the day. Always a great way to start! Let me know when you find them! Front of these areas Good info D. Remember that the females will use the same routes headed towards deep water after the spawn that they used headed to shallow water. Right now I would be looking for gravel with larger, basketball type rock mixed in and depending on the day "sun, clouds, wind, calm" I would start throwing into the shallows and bringing it back out to 12' of water. I was out yesterday from 3:30pm til dark and caught 7 keepers in the 18" range. Square bill KVD 1.5 did it yesterday. The day before it was all top water in the evening. Difference was wind yesterday and no wind the day before. This time of year, during the transition, I always start near the back of pockets, and work my way out until I find fish. It's a great tim to be on the water. The next few weeks the top water will be excellent. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Old plug Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Big basx are hunting not fishing. It also takes lot of perservierance. You can also forget the reaction bite with lunkers for the most part except diring the spawn. Its all about being in the right place at the right time with the right presentation. Your going to have for more failures than sucessful outings. dprice and Dewayne French 2
