Wow, is this thread dead? I went fishing at Montauk Thursday and since I started up fly fishing again, this is the third time this year I have made the drive. The water was at about 2.5 feet and murkier than I have ever fished it and the flow was pretty strong. I started slow but wound up with 12 fish for the 6 hours I fished. Nothing to brag on but a couple were real fatties with some nice colors. Midges and some mayflies were around and there were a few top water feeders but not for me. It was a good day for me.

Thanks for the report! Good to hear that there are some nice sized fish in the water.  I know several other people that were down this past weekend and they said the water was murky but they caught fish.

Did you happen to see agents cruising the park checking licenses etc?  I was down a few weeks ago and Fri/Sat/Sun I saw the agents out multiple times each day walking the banks.  Im glad to see it! The park needs some cleansing and tickets need to be written!

10pointer,

If park personnel were out checking tags I didn't notice. That doesn't mean they were not there, I just didn't notice. I can be focused on the moment and not see an elephant.

Went back to Montauk 5/24. The day started out OK, overcast water still a little murky at 1.90 Ft. level. Started out with an egg fly thinking that's what worked last week and it did.Fishing was slower than last week but I still picked up a fish here and there. Until the storms rolled in. We got a lot of thunder and it poured for about 45 minutes. After the rain stopped the sun came out and the fishing was tougher as the water got murkier from the runoff. Still it was a good day.
