I noticed that also M&M....i was told years ago that when using topwater lures that once the lure hits the water wait until the little wave rings disappear before moving the bait...dont know if this is true or false.

I think this my be a good idea for the Whopper Plopper only. On WTD type baits, I like to make it walk before it even lands?

I learned long ago that this little choice made a big difference. I cannot count the number of times the first move of a top water has caused an explosion. So much so that the first parts of the routine are the same regardless of whether I have a spook, a popper, a torpedo, a wake bait, or a Top Dollar tied on. Let the rings die. Twitch the bait gently.  Pause. Make it move about 2 inches. Pause. Start your retrieve.
