Brother-in-law insists it's illegal to use 2 flies at once at Bennett. Is this correct and if so or not where can I find this in print?

I've seen people do it but that doesn't mean it's legal. You could probably getaway with giggin at the whistle bridge.

Droppers are legal as long as all the flies used have single point hooks.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

I found nothing in the special regs that prohibited the use of a multi-hook set-up. Two nymph rig or dry and dropper should be OK. If you are brave or skilled enough for a three nymph rig knock yourself out.

BK & Mo I've always thought that to be correct. Just would like to find it in print. Guess it falls under the pretense if it doesn't say you can't do it you can. Brother-in-laws are pretty hard to convince if it's not in black and white. Guess I need to put the burden of proof on him and have him show me where it says you can't!

I think it's the other way around, Ruthead, but I may be mistaken.  If I remember right MDC's wildlife code is permissive (prescriptive?) meaning unless it says you can in the little booklet, you can't.  Keeps folks from dumping truckloads of tilapia in loz or karate chopping turtles in half, just because MDC hasn't thought of it.  Al or someone else may know better.

The one time I was stopped by an agent at Montauk he chewed me out for using a two-fly rig- no citation or anything, I can't even remember whether he checked my license.

somewhere in the codebook it says you are allowed 3 hooks per pole, aka alabama rig. I don't know why they would discriminate against a fly pole. but i would add that multiple hooks while fly fishing is tailor made for snagging and snaring and foul hooking.

Spoon- I should of thought about what I said. Ur correct it's if it doesn't say u can u can't.

Laker-it is easy to snag urselfthis way. Son snagged his thumb with fish flopping in the net. Luckily we pretty much use barbless hooks anymore so it came out easy. Two hooks does increase the odds of snagging or foul hooking a fish but very seldom seems to happen to us. U will never see any of my family intentionally trying to snag fish although u will see it by others at bennett. Saw a fella do I. It one time and mentions to him politely that it was illegal and he told me to mind my own business!

Laker67 is correct as it reads in the MDC book. I see no reason not to continue using a dropper until someone can prove fly fishers are violating a law. If you care to call the MDC and inquire just to be on the safe side. The way it reads in the book 3s the limit.

Ouch, that is easy enough to do with only one hook to contend with.
