LittleRedFisherman Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I haven't been on in awhile, and I've missed it. It been super busy lately at the farm, but finally getting the bull by the horns a bit. I had not been on the river since early March when my 7yo son caught that 19 incher. Last Friday, we were about caught up for the week, and it came a nice rain. My buddy Chad works with me on the farm, and we were talking about we should just hook up the boat and go. Well, didn't take long to follow through, before we knew it, we were hooked up and headed to Current river. We arrived about 3 pm, and it was hotter than a firecracker outside. Humidity was extreame, but with rain in the area, the barometer had fell. Whatever it was had them hungry. As we started fishing, we could hear baitfish jumping out of the water, looked over and saw a couple smallies chasing baitfish, that was really cool to see. We tried different things, but the stick worm was what was working best. They were hitting it really fast, and the action was good. We didn't catch any monsters, but caught a bunch of feisty smallies, doubling up on a few occasions. After we had caught 30 or so, we heard the baitfish thing again behind us in some dead still water in the shade, we saw the fish jump out of the water and a wake of something chasing them. We trolled over and Chad threw in there, and immediately hooked a pretty good largemouth! That would be the big fish of the day, after seeing all the hot biting, I decided i'd try a late evening topwater bite. About the time I thought it would heat up more, they really backed off biting, and the last 30 minutes of the day the action slowed, the topwater bite proved futile, but was still fun to try. All and all a great day, it was good to get back on the river, hope to get back soon, and more often!! Bret. Ham Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Most of us really aren't up to the long hours you put in day after day during the 10 month farming season. I'm glad to see you took advantage of a small window of opportunity. Good for you guys. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
grizwilson Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Great Report, glad you were able to get away for a bit. I need to get over there. I hit my local creek Sunday afternoon took several dips to keep me cool enough to fish but the fish bit well. I hear the 11 pt. has finally cleared up.....next. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein

We need to go sometime!! Bret There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
