Flysmallie Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 "I'm going to do what's right for the players." That translates to "I'm going to do whatever I have to do to keep winning and making a ton of money off of these kids." And that's the reason I can't like college football. It's just so dirty at that level. Yeah it's dirty above that level and it's even dirty below that level. But it's really nasty and despicable at the college level. I do envy you guys that enjoy it because I love football. And I try to get into it, but I just can't. These coaches are treated like gods while other departments in these schools are struggling to get the tools they need to make our citizens better, more intelligent members of society. Bring on high school football though because I am ready for some of that!
Ham Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 His guys got caught with drugs and stolen firearms. The local DA chose not to prosecute despite and open and shut case because......? My guess is that he got a bag of cash under the table or a sizeable donation to his next election campaign. Hey Nicky, you Napoleon complex is showing. You have been incredibly successful at your trade. You don't have to be a douche bag every time out. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I know that the big time high school programs do their fair share of "doing whats best for the player" (aka doing what you have to do to win). From all state caliber kids just happening to transfer into the suburban school's area from the inner city on a regular basis. To players living with an aunt, a family friend, the coach, just to play on a given team. Outright recruiting to private schools and public schools. QB transferring from private school to public school because he wasn't going to start at private school because former pro-QBs kid arrives at private school along with a substantial donation. Kids caught stealing from their employer and selling merchandise to other players yet no charges filed or discipline from team. Kids caught smoking dope not allowed to start a game to teach a lesson instead of a suspension from school or an entire game(s). A player wrecks his vehicle after driving when he was too drunk to walk and almost loses his life. Local PD brings no charges of any sort, no suspension from school, and they bring kid out to the games in a wheel chair to "inspire" the team as he is the model student athlete. High school sports are so political at most schools and really dirty at a lot of them. Really no different than college or pro as drug, alcohol, fighting, domestic violence type issues with girlfriends, etc. are all problems in the high schools as well. Yet they are covered up more than the college or pro level. No reason to ruin a kids rep for the rest of his life so sweep it under the rug and let society deal with it later. Ham 1
Ham Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 It seems like looking the other way when "good" athletes behave poorly starts younger and younger. I would bet it starts at the Jr High level these days. The student athlete should be held to a higher standard and not a lower one. Is it really a surprise when professional athletes act a fool? They get thrown tons of money and tons of accolades and they've had years of not being held accountable when they act out and cross the line. They are still responsible for their actions, but often did not get proper education and guidance growing up. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Quillback Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 The arms race thing with high schools and especially colleges is out of control. Arkansas is paying Bielema $4 million per year, that's ridiculous. Colleges could cap a coaches salary at say $250,000 per year, which is darn good money, and I bet you'd have people lined up out the door for those jobs and we'd have quality football, no different than what we have today. Then there's the upgrading of athletic facilities, basically colleges just keep spending more on facilities to aid recruiting, it does nothing for the football we see on the field, but it's a must in the recruiting wars. And Arkansas spends all that doggone money and loses to the like of the Toledo Rockets, sheesh...
Ham Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 FTR, the last time LSU lost a regular season game to a Non Conference Football team was when Saban was coach Just sayin Of course putting their record on the line against a good Wisconsin team out the gate. This is true in some high schools. Usually not hard to figure out which ones are doing it. But I will say that the high schools aren't making billions of dollars off of these players.
ness Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 From CBS News: In deciding to drop the charges, district attorney Jerry D. Jones cited insufficient evidence and the opportunities that exist for the players. "I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning," Jones told KNOE News in Louisiana. Ham Posted July 15, 2016 Author Posted July 15, 2016 They were found to be in possession of stolen firearms and drugs. Lack of evidence my butt. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
