I fished for a couple hours with my nephews. Here are a couple clips of the results of our  "How to throw a spoon at walleye on a hot day" lesson. We also caught bass, and whites in the same area. The bite was over around 10 am  so we turned into the people fisherman hate "tubers"

We stayed at Southwinds Motel, and fished Bink's spoons exclusively.

We had a lot of fun I really enjoyed it !

How big was that one you caught Dan?

20.25" Didn't get the weight probably in the 2.5 lb range the others were 16 to 16.5.

Glad you caught some. Stockton really cranks out 15 to 18 inch fish. The 20+ you caught is considered a monster there. Well done!

You are right, but it was a frenzy near the boat, I was able to see several nice fish hitting schools of fry, I have a few ideas for the next trip.

Dan,

Nice video. Glad you caught some.

RPS,

Saw your comment on the 20+" Walleye being a Monster. Wanted to say that many years ago I too fished for Walleye on Stockton. 20" was a pretty standard keeper fish. At that time 28 to 30" were a Monster. Have caught several that length myself. Of course that was before the 15" length limit came along. Used to be 18". Just saying ya know. This is why I preach Length Limit, Length Limit, Length Limit where Fish are concerned. I personally believe the "Quality" ( general size) of the Walleye was much better then. While I am on it I also believe we could have more spawning of the Walleye in Stockton ( and other lakes ) if we had Zones or seasons that did not allow them to be kept during certain times of the year. Kind of surprised the Department of Conservation hasn't jumped on that opportunity as it would save them money if they did not have to stock a many.

Cool video!! Stockton is just simply my favorite missouri lake, and its not even close.  Nice work with the jigging spoon.  Its nice to see some folks using it as i feel with all the new lures the spoon is overlooked...yet its one of my big producers of all species.  They are def one of my best tools on the southern missouri lakes.  I noticed though that you mentioned casting them?  Are you counting it down and yo yoing it back to the boat?  I have a jigging spoon tied on 100% of the time but i rarely catch them during a retrieve.  My most effective method is a 1-2foot short hop, or 1-3 inch wiggle on a vertical drop.  I would love to learn your casting/retrieving technique?

I fully agree with the zone idea.  We do this with waterfowl, why not with certain species of fish to promote the spawn or at least promote some monsters to grow in the lake.  I think the length limit of 15 is appropriate though.

Nice fish Dan!! 20 inch walleye is a nice walleye anytime anywhere!! Wish you would have shown us your technique with that spoon. Maybe you wanted to keep that a secret!! :) We had problems catching any 18 inch plus walleyes for several years. Cant explain why. So my buddies and I were pleased to see Stockton reduce the length limit to 15. We love to eat the walleyes but we do release any big fish. We harvest the 15 and 16 inchers. I would not have a problem with a zone restriction if it helps this wonderful resource. The MDC is now stocking eyes in Stockton every year now instead of every 3rd year I believe. I guess they want to help the guys who like to harvest them. But yes, catching a quality 20 inch walleye is hard to do for us. Very rare.
