Quillback Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Went out last night from 6 to 10 PM with my neighbor and we fished Indian Creek. Fishing was slow, I caught two keeper sized smallies - one was 18 inches, and had a couple of strong pullers get off the jig. My neighbor lost one at the boat, and that was about it for bites. Fished a black 1/2 ounce jig with a black twin tailed trailer. Fish that were caught came from 10-15 FOW around timber and rocks. Surface water temp was 91. zarraspook, Champ188, Bg193ch and 3 others 6
nomolites Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Beautiful smallie! Black? That is why I love this site, always learning... Mike

bferg Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Nice job Quill- you slay up and down the white river! Even I don't like to swim in 91 degree water!! Bg193ch 1

Stump bumper Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 A slow fall black trick worm with no weight used to be my go to bait when the fish were sluggish. Now I don't have a package in the boat and I don't know why, just something I got away from. I guess waiting on worm to fall 10-15 feet just got to slow but I do remember catching a lot of bass that way.

I've been curious to try something like that around docks now, but thought it was more of a post spawn tactic.
RyanG Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 There were summers growing up where I would have a weightless black worm on at all times. When I was sitting on the dock and saw a wolf pack of bass cruising the bank I would rocket that worm on the bank in front of those bass and burn it back off the bank in front of them. Caught a lot of big bass that way. Cloudy days and sunny days. Its hit or miss, obviously the fish have to be there but it was fun. Can't see letting a weightless one fall around docks be a bad idea. snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I fish a fairly clear, deep lake and I started using a jig head with hook to get them down quicker. They will only drop quickly for the first several feet and then they slow down as they get deeper. Works pretty well when the fish are deeper.
Quillback Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 My dad and his buddy Vince used to fish black Trick Worms on a Slider head almost all the time, year round, on the lakes around here. They did pretty well on them, and on the days they didn't, they'd blame it on the fish not biting.
