dnj21 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 What changes do you make in condition like this where we are seeing high, muddy conditions? Talking Largemouth's in small impoundments specifically.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I switch from the boat to the couch. Seriously I've never had good luck in those conditions. Tomorrow looks like it's going to be that way but I go anyway.
MOsmallies Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Go flip/pitch shallow cover with a Black/Blue jig or creature bait. Or try a colorado bladed spinnerbait or chatterbait. Mitch f 1
dnj21 Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 MOSmallies was spot on. I tried hollow body frog (they kept missing it) then a Chartruse Spinnerbait, finally started catching them around 800am on a brown/orange swim jig. At 830 I caught what I believe is my best ever Largemouth. No scale or tape in the boat, but trolling motor controller is 10" across. Dances With Smallies, tho1mas, Johnsfolly and 1 other 4
dnj21 Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 Headed back out again this morning. Water clarity improved, but still up. Real slow to start, downsized to a 1/8oz green pumpkin swim jig and caught a few early. No frog bite at all. About 8am I picked up the larger jig again and for about 30 min had a blast. Either right on the outside of the weed line or real shallow in pocket's of weeds. Very cool.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I went out yesterday too. It's a small lake we fish occasionally. High and muddy. Can't fish a ned or jig due to downed trees all over the lake. But that cover really grows some nice ones. We caught a few early on a white fluke but definitely slow. I switched to a blue shad color thinking bluegill might be on a second spawn and caught the best fish of the day. Then I switched to baby bass and it was on for an hour. We quit at 11:30 with a bunch of 15 to 20 inch fish and some dinks. I figure the bass were keying on small bass because the absolutely wrecked that color. None of our fish were shallow even the high water was up in the bushes. All were caught out from the bank. Pete

He said everything he caught was in the 8ft range, couldn't buy a bite up shallow. We didn't get as far as comparing colors. I didn't really try out deeper, I see high water up in the bushes and get tunnel vision.
