rcguy Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I have information that the Jap Beetle hatch is in full swing today. Black foam beetles are hot. Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone going. Wish I was....bummer Phil Lilley and brittsnbirds 2
fishinwrench Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 While you're at it try a yellow over peacock with black legs.
BilletHead Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 A nice long hatch, Mrs. BilletHead and I tore them up on a disco beetle a month ago. brittsnbirds Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Dang Jerry, you don't make it easy on a guy! Stuck home working, wife wants to get away when she gets back into town. Looked at on-line reservations and every park in Missouri is full for the first week of Sept. Must be the end of the year rush before school starts (but it already has). Can always take the chance for CG5!
rcguy Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Pat, I know I'm dying to get down there but my wife is still fighting some bulging disk pain. Its getting better. I have not checked on camping yet. I would imagine a guy could get into CG 5 during the week? I might just have to take off some morning to spend the day and come back. I really just wanted to take the wife and pup and camp but that might have to wait a few more weeks.
rcguy Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 The week ends in CG4 are sure full but the weekdays looks pretty open.
NoLuck Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Well Jerry, It may have been pretty good fishing a beetle before the last big rain. But I was down over the weekend and top water anything wasn't working too well. Seemed like the only thing I could catch fish on was a brassie. Caught a few stripping a blonde leech on sinking line though ,along with a couple on a crackle back. I'll be on vacation the weekend before Labor Day weekend and Monday through Thursday. Depending on the water conditions along with the weather I'll be down there. If it's crappy weather or high water I'm debating heading out to NM to the San Juan. Cant wait for cooler weather and lesser crowds.
Members Craig's Outdoor Sports Posted August 17, 2016 Members Posted August 17, 2016 Was just there yesterday. Didn't catch anything and what fish I seen caught were on a variety of things. Crackle backs, San Juan worms, brown jigs were the talk of the day and what I saw fish being caught on. I had read this before going yesterday and tied up and fished a couple of black beetles. Couldn't even get them to turn and look at them. Bright colors seemed to be working best yesterday. Still had a fun trip even without catching anything. At least it got me out of the store for part of the day! Daryk Campbell Sr 1 Craig www.craigsoutdoorsports.com
