I am needing a good pair of winter footwear for this winter season (I fish all winter). I had a very nice pair of Irish Setters that I (actually my son) wore out. I had them for about 8 years. I liked the waterproof and warmth but they were big and bulky and camouflage. They wouldn't let you bend your ankles much, very cumbersome.  I am looking for something that is just over ankle high and waterproof and warm.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I prefer a good pair of wool socks and the waterproof boots. But if my feet get cold I'm done for the day.

You will laugh, I wear large wool socks with the lined Crocs,  never get cold.  They aren't water proof, but are great for warmth... laugh if you want to but don't hate it until you try it.

Danner Acadia, Not extremely warm but mine are the lesser insulated ones (I think 200gram) I've never owned the 400gram but no doubt a bit warmer. Disclaimer, I don't fish when it's freezing temps or below, just never found the reward worth the hassle of frozen guides and frozen fingers.

Pros: They fit super good, not bulky like other boots I've used. Last a long long time. Waterproof.

Cons: Expensive. Hard to put on/take off.

I want to add a question to the thread...... anybody try the battery powered ,heated boot inserts?  (thermocell or some such)

I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar

I picked up a pair of Meindls last fall, wore them as my fishing boot, they are light (3.2lbs. per pair), waterproof (well I would not use them as waders) and warm.  You can get them with different liners.  I got the 400 gram, never had a problem with getting cold while fishing last winter.  Granted, if it is below freezing I don't go, so I don't know how they would do in extreme cold.  Cabelas usually will put them on sale periodically.

I wear my Sorels when fishing in cold weather. With a nice pair of wool socks. They are not water proof but will handle light rain and snow. They are heavy. Intended for sitting in a deer stand or a duck blind. But your feet will stay warm! I fish Tanneycomo some in January. Got to have warm boots!!
