Members KC Angler Posted September 6, 2016 Members Posted September 6, 2016 I have yet to make it down to Bennett since flooding affected the area late last year. Some reports I’ve read mention that the flooding changed the landscape of the stream considerably, that holes and structure that were once there are no more. I primarily fish the middle of zone 1 down to the dam. Can someone provide additional details and possibly some photos that illustrated how that stretch of water has changed since the flooding? How does it fish differently? I usually visit Bennett Spring a few times during the winter C&R season and would like to know what to expect when I get down there. Thanks, Jeremy
NoLuck Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 The stream through there filled in with gravel in some places enough to walk to the far side of the stream. Some places weren't effected as much as others. You'll just have to see it for yourself and adjust to the new fish holding areas. As far as winter C&R goes, there is plans to dredge parts of the stream. Not exactly sure when that is to take place though. Hopefully the aquatic insects aren't destroyed too bad. I'm also hoping that they put in some big boulders like they did at Montauk. Structure has been lacking for quite a while there now, above and below the dam. Either way it's nice to look forward to some new challenges in the fishing down there. Be interesting to see how things turn out.
fshndoug Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 boulders did nothing at the upper end of taney, just a waste of money laker67 and trythisonemv 2
NoLuck Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Bennett doesn't get the flow that Taney gets either. I'd be pretty safe to say that the MDC gets a pretty good deal on boulders. So cost shouldn't be an issue. A waste of money was those boot washing stations they put in. I still see quite a few people with felt soles there. Let them try something. It's long over due. I mean something other than more concrete. upstream 1
moguy1973 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Where did they put in boulders at Montauk? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
laker67 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 I wish they would discontinue the dredging. From the first time they did it back in the eighties, I think, it has ruined the creek. Especially the upper end. Let nature take care of the creek. That worked good for a lot of years prior to dredging. snagged in outlet 3 and trythisonemv 2

flyfishmaster Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 In smaller stream like BSSP, I see where boulders assist with flyfishin' but could hinder (at times) with the spin casts. I find it easy mending around the boulders with the fly line. But, I do have to say Winter season is my favorite because I can fish Zone 3 where there are more boulders than any other part of the stream and I seem to always do well. Let the boulder invasion begin!! Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
fshndoug Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 talk about no flow at Bennett, tell that to the hatchery manager when all the fish washed out of the hatchery. TroutMonster 1
