Quillback Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Got to the launch at 0630, and the fog was thick, stayed close waiting for it to burn off, took almost 2 hours for it to go away. Threw a buzz bait to start, boated 2 short bass and had another half dozen take a swipe at it. Gar were interested in the buzzer also, had one follow it right up to the trolling motor, and had another one, and it looked to be about as long as my leg, grab it right at the boat. He had it for about a second, I looked at him, he looked at me, and he swapped ends and took off. Fortunately he let go of the bait before he took off. Threw a "Crock-o-Gator" buzzbait for the first time today. Compact buzzbait, you can bend the wire a little so that the blade makes contact with the body and get a pretty good clacking noise if you want to. One thing I did not like about it was that the skirt strands will sometimes work their way onto the shaft holding the blade, easy to fix, but it will wreck the retrieve when it happens. When the fog burned off the top water bite died, so I threw some jigs and did a little drop shotting. Picked up a few fish, but never really found them. Left at noon with a dozen total, 2 keepers. Water temp was 80. Did not see a single wake boarder, skier or jet ski. Donna G, cheesemaster, merc1997 Bo and 3 others 6

Jerry Rapp Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 been using them for 30? years or so. I learned a lot from Don Carrow, the founder of COG. Lots of little tricks with that buzzer.
176champion Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Thanks for report Quill... Rained here all afternoon...started about noon time.. I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
dtrs5kprs Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Old school wide, flat rubber skirts (not living) still rock buzzers, for that very reason. Champ188 1
cheesemaster Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Thanks Quillback for the report. Love to read about any buzzbait fishing report, that's my kind of fishing!!
Nitro 750 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Thanks for the report Quill, love to throw the buzz bait.

MOsmallies Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I'm a big fan of the COG buzzbaits as well but like you said they have the skirt/blade issue. They have a huge following on LOZ. You could try changing out the skirt with flat rubber like Dave suggested or throw a horny toad or swimbait on in place of the skirt
Champ188 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Doesn't hurt their popularity at LOZ that Mark Wiese throws their stuff. If there's a better tournament fisherman on the lake, I've not met him. Besides, he's a good guy.
