I met with Brother from another mother Hog Wally to go chase some Smallmouth bass and we ended up with Temperate bass :)

The cold front that passed through on Friday really put the fish deep into cover and gave them lock jaw. That is typical of the Fall as you all probably  know the weather seems to reek more havoc on the bite with cold fronts as opposed  to the Summer. Oh well any time spent  with my good friend is a good deal. We fished some new Swimbaits from Reaction Innovations that seem like they will be a nice little deal. Now I am back home giving spelling  bees to my 6 year old....such is the life for this dork. I also threw in a bonus pic of an example of the city fag deer in my yard...They won't even run away while I'm mowing  grass with in 20 ft of them. I really need to go buy a new bow.....happy Fall fishing my friends

I got tags to kill a whitetail of either sex or a buck mule deer (antlers over 4 inches long) out here in Montana.  We have mule deer does and fawns coming through the yard in bunches every day--but yesterday was the first day we've seen any whitetails, and we've only seen one little forkhorn mulie that probably didn't weigh 100 pounds.  The does and fawns just look at us as they placidly chew their cuds, unless we get within 20 yards, then they amble off a bit.  The whitetails we saw yesterday took off like scalded cats as soon as they saw us.  I doubt if hardly anybody hunts any of them this close to town, but it's amazing how they know who is in danger and who isn't.

Yep, absolutely beautiful here right now...cottonwoods along the river are all golden yellow, aspens on the mountainsides are still mostly golden as well.  There's snow above 7000 feet (we're at a bit under 5000 at the house).  Mary and I did a hike today, temps in the 70s down in the valley where we are, but we were up close to 8000 feet and it was pleasantly cool, low fifties, which made hiking a bit tough since the trail had snow in a lot of places that had turned to mud and slush.  This coming week is going to be cooler; in fact, word is that by Tuesday the highs will only be in the upper 30s, with a possibility of snow down low.  We just had our first frost a couple nights ago.

I noticed Saturday that the colors are starting to come on here as well.  The fish trap area and bank on the back side of Shaw's Nature Reserve are going to be very pretty in the next week or so.

That reaction packaging looks like it belongs on a gas station t-shirt.

That's just the beginning with the Reaction Innovations people:  Here are the names of some of their colors:  California 420, dirty sanchez, statutory grape, money shot, just to name a few.............

Dirty Sanchez is one of my favorites. Are the hooks you used to rig the dippers weighted or unweighted?
