Ok then well how about we just make all hunting illegal then seems to me that if you guys bitch about that then you all become crybabies saying the Gov is overstepping there boundries.  Just like when the gov was shut down and we the people complained that they shut the ramps down at the lake we said we had paid for that with our taxes and they dont have a right to tell us we cant use them, same goes for the public and corp land we pay to openly hunt on that land but you guys are to busy complaining that the pigs are destroying land but arent willing to take care of the issue so ur letting the Gov control the supposed Problem

and to the guy that is complaining about the idea of share your harvest the hunter is  the one that pays the processing fee anyway( i just read where in some area the MDC covers partial cost of  Processing) i have been on several trips with guys i hunt with that they always donate and dont mind paying the fee because they enjoy hunting and know that the meat is going to good use

We aren't "willing" to take care fo the issue because we CAN'T take care of it.  Get it through your head, hogs are PESTS.  They are destructive of the land.  They should never have been released into the Missouri wild.  Your wish to hunt them on public land does not justify the damage they do and will continue to do.  What, you think MDC is making it all up that hunting is not effective at controlling, let alone eradicating, wild hogs?  They are doing what the science says is most effective at getting rid of them or at least keeping their numbers so low that their damage is minimized.dc

And I have no idea where the "how about we just make all hunting illegal then" came from.  I'd be willing to bet that all of us on here, as well as nearly everybody in MDC, are hunters or support legal hunting.  If the science said that hog hunting was the best way to fix the undeniable problems they cause, we'd be all for it.

MoPanfisher, Chief Grey Bear, and others,

OK........ I have been watching the comments for a few days. Let me see if I have it straight.................

1. The corp CAN SELL LAND THAT OUR TAXES BOUGHT !!!!!!!!!!!! After all Mopanfisher said so........ might take a little bit of government paperwork but it CAN HAPPEN !!!!! Or lease it..... whichever brings in the most money............... wish I could buy something with other peoples money and then lease it or sell it for personal income. Great deal huh?

Smart idea number one.

2. After spending all this money and time to trap the hogs they ARE BURYING THEM !!!  Why not spend some more and get a little something out of it for the hungry??? Let me put this in perspective........... one word................Spoonbill...............there has been plenty spent on that one........... but then it creates income ........... not food for the needy.

Smart idea number two. And wasteful.

3. So if a guy is Deer hunting on corp land and a group of hogs comes by ( like has happened to some of my friends..... and they shot them ) he now cannot kill them. Pretty smart huh? A chance to get rid of a few more but NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! We can't ...............

Smart idea number three.

4. Why is it that we haven't done more about killing them already? Because Bass ( you know who) or other outdoor retailers haven't started selling "Hog calls" , Hog Guns, hog attractor scents, etc. Get the picture? In other words not enough money pumped into it yet. People are suckers for marketing...... we just haven't done it enough yet for Hogs.If everyone knew how good they tasted and how to hunt them ( bait included) they would have been pursued much harder. Why?? Because certain agencies have made this a "gray area" and most hunters did not know where they stood with legally killing them. In other words............NOT PROMOTED !!!!

Smart Idea number 4

5. Chief Gray Bear. Great comments about Shawnee Trails. Plowed it up for Doves.................... Hmmmm ..... many , many, Dove hunters, much money............... not many Prairie Chicken Hunters,............ not much money............... old man not so dumb............ understand perfectly.

Smart idea number 5

OK guys, tear it up........... I just basically repeated some of the comments .... with a little of my personal touch.

Well I will hit a few of the points.  Yes any Government agency CAN sell land, with congressional approval. (I have yet to know of a successful attempt, but it does happen on occasion I am sure.) As for leasing, if agencies were not able to lease property out there would be marinas or resorts on COE lakes, no farmers planting crops on Gov properties, no MDC doing wildlife mgt on federal property.etc.  the monies go back to the schools (75%) in the county the land is leased in.  the remaining usually goes back to the US treasury , not back to the agency because only congress can appropriate money, and keeping the monies collected would violate that congressional "power of the purse".  the reason the trapped hogs get buried has already been covered. Don't think anyone doubts the deliciousness of pork, easy to hunt negative on that one. Hog calls are out there, Google is your friend.  the rest has been covered enough.

To explain it to you would be like explaining to wrench. A complete waste of time and bandwidth.

I'm gonna say that's because you either suck at explaining, or your points are total BS.

If guys were allowed (and encouraged) to shoot hogs on sight they would be extinct quicker and at less expense than all this trapping crap is taking.

And as for the bury/harvest cost thing......Last I checked, backhoe operators got paid more than meat processors. I can dress out a hog quicker and cheaper than I can bury one.   When was the last time any of y'all dug a hole that size?  I planted 8 Mumms for my sweetie a week ago and I still have a blood-blister from it.

I'm so sure that MDC needs to buy another brand new backhoe, trailer and 2 ton truck to pull it, so they can bury hogs now.  A blood blister on a MDC employee's hand would equal a workman's comp claim and 2 weeks of paid leave.

No, that ain't the reason.

The fact remains hunting/shooting feral hogs on sight was legal for several years, it was even encouraged in at least a couple printed formats, the deer/turkey regs book and the conaervationist.  and the populations certainly weren't wiped out by hunters.  the whole bury/dispose of thing has already been explained.

Well deer can be classified as PEST and they are legal to hunt, furbears trap nuisance or pest and that is legal.

No you wanna know whats destructive to land its called the Human Race that builds houses in these animals natural Territory but you wont complain about that because oh thats a beautiful home.

Oh as i stated before isnt against the Code of Ethics not to use or eat what you kill.

One suggestion to you about this is maybe u get ur buddies together and go on a hunt for them and see how many you guys can wipe out, instead you choose to sit behind a computer screen arguing that the MDC knows whats best
