Members Joenothum Posted December 9, 2016 Members Posted December 9, 2016 Had a buddy come down and fish this weekend. I had not been on Taney to fish for trout in at least a couple months, (even though Taney is literally in my back yard). We boat up around Fall Creek to target bigger fish. My third cast I caught a really nice brown, and after that it was dead for an hour. All of a sudden we started hitting a few smaller fish and Cody hooked up with a good one. Of course this is the story about the one that got away but the fish came unbuttoned at the boat and we both agreed it was in the 7-8# mark. Literally 5 casts later Cody catches a beautiful brown that had some size to him. We didn't weigh our fish but both were 3.5-4# I would guess. Didn't catch a whole lot but we were after bigger fish and found a couple. Johnsfolly, Seth, Gavin and 4 others 7

Johnsfolly Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Congrats those are great looking brown trout! I would always like larger if fewer fish especially if they are the ones that you guys caught on this trip.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 9, 2016 Root Admin Posted December 9, 2016 You guys throwing stick baits?

Members cracklebak Posted December 9, 2016 Members Posted December 9, 2016 Nice fish! I hate to hear the big one got away. He's probably back under Phil's dock 'til next year now lol! Seems being near the bottom is a recurring theme. I just fly fish, what do you all consider stick baits or jerk baits? I picture a bass lure when I hear that?

Seth Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 @Joenothum what size line are you using on your casting setups? I usually throw 5" husky jerks on a medium/fast spinning combo with 6# mono when I fish down on Taneycomo. I've always thought about throwing my bigger jerkbaits that I use for bass on my casting gear, but I haven't tried it yet. When bass fishing, I throw 10-12# mono on them so I was wondering if I needed to drop down to 6-8# for Taney's crystal clear water.
