JestersHK Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 I've thrown allot of Rapala X raps in the baby trout and white patterns on 10lb braid at night. I generally only throw 2 hook sticks, although my BIL has thrown the longer 3 hooks and had some success. I have some other sticks and husky jerks too that are really shiny which I like for at night with a moon. I think I'm going to start throwing them during the day too just to target these bigger browns. Those are some beautiful fish. I crush all my barbs on these treble hooks too as they seem to tangle up in everything fish and fingers included
Gavin Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Brown Trout love big minnow baits. Can't go wrong with a 4.5" model. Sometimes bigger, occasionally smaller. Same stuff you fish for bass. Johnsfolly and awhuber 2

I usually throw 5" husky jerks on a medium/fast spinning combo with 6# mono when I fish down on Taneycomo. I've always thought about throwing my bigger jerkbaits that I use for bass on my casting gear, but I haven't tried it yet. When bass fishing, I throw 10-12# mono on them so I was wondering if I needed to drop down to 6-8# for Taney's crystal clear water. Seth I used 8# fluro. I really like throwing the Rapala shadow rap in the deep diver version and then I stick the Storm "Suspend Dots" to the underside midway on the lure and head (2 on the head). It makes it barely sink nose down which I really think is a huge key in the jerk bait. However my buddy will throw his RC stickbaits on 6# mono on his spinning rod and still catch em. ...another note, on the rapala jerkbaits, change out the split rings and hooks. Hooks are very sharp but very wiry and bend easy. Split rings break. Seth and Johnsfolly 2

I really want to be sure I stick a big one if it hits so I like the barbs on the front treble. I don't like that center hook swinging down and hooking them under the gill area, use to have lots of bleeders from taking hooks out.

If you wrap a rubber band around the hooks (just one band for all hooks on the crank, not individually wrapping ea hook) they will not tangle and you can store more in one box.
