Old plug Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I am a cheater sometimes if I want my spooning fishing to be almost certain. I will put a 2-3 inch fresh shad on a spoon and jig it or just let it drop through the water. Work wonders. It will also get you surprises from other species as well. Beats the boredom. bfishn 1

Stump bumper Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 There was a discussion about wives fishing then a confession about cheating, I was afraid where that was going. I was thinking something like hey your wife fishes with me and she broke two rods and lost 4 of my best jerk baits so now you owe me $400. That would be the story if my wife fished with someone else anyway. But I have jigged a dead threadfin on a spoon and got fish to bite that were not hitting the bait or spoon before. Also disclaimer if you sneak around fishing with my wife I am not paying for anything she breaks or looses !!! Daryk Campbell Sr, Champ188 and Robert Haynes 3
Dan the fisherman Posted December 16, 2016 Author Posted December 16, 2016 I use binks pro spoons for vertical jigging. I forget what I use for horizontal spooning. I know them when I see them though.
Old plug Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Thing about those shad the fresher the better. I isually do not rake more than a couple dozen. keep them in the water dead or slive and use them within a couple hours that is plenty enough to satisfy me.
Blll Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 Can't make this up...true story. Last week I had just got out and had tied on a new Dixie-Jet spoon on for the first time. Forgot to adjust the bait caster and 1st cast into the wind blew up a backlash of epic size. Picked at it for a good 5 minutes while drifting in the wind and you guessed it..wham! Something clobbered it. With no way to let out line, I chased it with the Minn Kota and finally gained some line on the reel. Great fight -14# striper. Still swimmin. Daryk Campbell Sr and J-Doc 2
