merc1997 Bo Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 i think you always have to force feed them with something. we really do not fish with anything that exactly is anything like the bass's natural forage. fronts this time of the year really have an affect of shallower bass, and because of the colder water temps, the bass feed way less because of the time required to digest their food. that being said, there will be post front days that the bass are simply asleep on the bottom and nothing will wake them up. looking out the window, this appears to be the day to go fishing for those shallower bass. it is cloudy and some wind blowing. bo Quillback 1
Fish24/7 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Bo i edited my "force feed" comment because after I re read my post I didn't want it to start conversation with people on a defensive ,so with that being said there are NO excuses in imo . we figure out the bite or we don't. Don't really agree with some of your thoughts just now on bass behavior but that's cool. merc1997 Bo 1
merc1997 Bo Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 nothing on the defensive, and i totally agree with figuring out the bite or not. i would say that i am one to try to force feed the bass because i am always trying to figure out speed, how i am moving any particular lure to trigger a bite, and hope that i remember exactly what i was doing when i do finally get a bite. those darn green critters can sure be very picky at times. if it was easy, we would get bored with it, right? bo
Mitch f Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Nice fish! All of them! Interesting all LM on jerk baits were caught on the back hook. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Bill Babler Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 Not uncommon this time of the year to catch most all on the back hook, side of the head or in the back on a stick bait. On the walleye especially, they never eat it good. I had two others to the boat on the sticker that were hooked in the side and did not photo them. I will also tell you that I don't catch them everyday when I fish on my own. . When I'm fishing by myself and don't really care or if I try and bend the fish a lot of times I don't catch them. If I catch them I'll tell you. I fished float and fly for 3 hrs. and did not get a bite. That's the deal. If I struggle I'll tell you. Makes me no difference, if a person says they catch them everyday they may not be as truthful as they need to be. I will tell you this, I have been a Federal Capt. and licensed guide for 27 years and have never skunked on a guide trip. What I do when I'm fun fishing and what I do with clients are two totally different deals. I'll keep you posted when I do well or if they make me work. Honesty is what makes OzarkAnglers what it is.
