abkeenan Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Was at Bass Pro getting our annual pic with Santa and the kids and noticed they had some Daiwa reels at the reel counter. Spoke to the guy behind the counter and BPS is carrying Daiwa again after a 1 year pissing match. Not sure who broke down and bit the bullet on the negotiations but either way they're back. I realize this is not Earth shattering news but to a tackle dork I figured it was worth mentioning. Smalls21 1
jim m Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 maybe johny just bought another company LOL Champ188 1
Quillback Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I wonder if it has anything to do with the Cabelas buyout. Cabelas sells Daiwa and Daiwa makes the Cabelas labeled reels. Champ188 and dtrs5kprs 2

kjackson Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 That is a nice connection--the Cabela's bit. It could also be a fallout from the sale of Pure Fishing and the restructuring that follows. With the company dumping some of the brands and doing away with vertical marketing, the PF brands are going to have a lot less punch in the market. I'm guessing that will leave a hole in the marketplace. It's likely to be an opportunity for other brands to take up the slack. Daiwa is in a good position to do just that. Quillback and abkeenan 2
dtrs5kprs Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Not in the new catalog though, except for some big trolling gear.

Also a good point about the Pure Fishing deal. Doubt it will mean much to Abu, Pflueger , Penn (Saltwater guys) and Fenwick (I think they have a river rat following?). But Mitchell and Shakespeare I could see being condensed into one. I think I also heard that Spiderwire will be no more. I guess Berkley will just take on that line (pun) and call it something else like Trilene/Fireline Whatever Braid.

Champ188 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Can't very well afford to get in a whizzing match with Johnny these days since he pretty much controls the entire sport of fishing. techo, Daryk Campbell Sr, abkeenan and 1 other 4
