Jdecoudres Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 In the market for a wireless trolling motor. Don't really need the gps but id really like to have the wireless ability. Any reviews of anyone using the motor guide ix5? Im confuses on if I should go 12 or 24v so any input in that area would be great also. Im putting it on a stealth craft 16ft ATB. fly fish 90% of the time so I will be using it in current to slow down my boat to get better drifts when I'm fishing alone. Thanks!
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I would think the 12v 55 would be plenty for that boat. I have one on my tracker 175 in the 80lb version. Best thing i have ever done in my opinion, if you dont need the gps and your gonna always be moving in current i would think any wireless not GPS would do what you need and cost you about half the price of a GPS rig
grizwilson Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 spot lock in current is very nice, however if you have wind opposite of current it can become very confused do not think i will ever be with out spot lock of some sort. You can lock and fish several drifts in a shoot or eddie, great approach for me. dan hufferd 1 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
sean c Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I put a ix5 on my Towee it is hands down the best trolling motor I have ever owned for fly fishing. The spot lock is amazing especially compared to Minkota not sure how much current you are talking about but I would think 24v would be better if slowing down in current is your main need
dan hufferd Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I have the 80 lb xi 5 with spot lock and built in transducer. I bought it not knowing which brand was better, I trusted a friend who fishes the same way that I do who owned both, he said that he would buy another MG when his passes away. That was good enough for me. I will add that I had buyers remorse for weeks, to me they are expensive, but the more I use it, the more I love it the, spot lock will change your life ! If you fish in current or wind I would buy the biggest one you can afford with spot lock. Mine will easily hold my 17 ft deep v in 18 mph wind. I love it ! Good luck, spend the extra if you can for the spot lock grizwilson 1

That would be putting that 225 on the back of that 17' Tracker. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
