new jigs

I saw a couple new jigs today and was wondering if anyone had tryed them they are basically a skirted ned. Can get them in 16th and 8th ounce.

I've fished a bunch of "micro" skirted jigs, back to before I picked up the little rig. 1/16-1/8, fine round rubber or fine silicone skirts, little hand poured craws and chunks. About a #4-#1 hook.

Thing is...I've never found them better than the cut Zinkerz. They weren't better before, haven't been since. Before the Ned, I used them on bed fish, docks, transition rock. They were just ok. 

Still have a bunch, even some in the boat. Threw one a couple of years ago with the tail section of a Fattyz on it, split to look like a craw, or old school eel chunk. Looked awesome. The regular cut stick just blew it away, on the same places.

Will pull the box out and put up a pic. I used a sparkie jig mold, modified for a twin wire guard. Little hard to find a good hook in that size and with the 60 degree eye. Gamakatsu makes their bronze flip jig hooks in #2 and #1. That's the best I found for it.

This is one I have seen comes in several colors.

I'd trim that skirt up a bit, otherwise I am sure it'll catch fish

Yep. Less skirt is better. 

Biggest issue I have with these is the ridiculously slow fall, even by finesse guy standards. To me, a jig is best when you can keep it knocking around on the bottom. Very difficult to do with these little jigs. By contrast, the Midwest Finesse stuff works throughout the water column, swimming or dragging/dead sticking.

Couple of 1/8 from my box, with a regular 1/8 finesse head for comparison. Trailer is the cut Fattyz tail, split.

Not knocking experimentation ... without it we'd have never had the first artificial lure. But I'm with Dave on this one ... the Little Guy does just fine without tinkering.
