jdmidwest Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 At first thought, an air boat motor of some kind. But further thoughts about the size and position make me wonder. As high as it is, I really can't imagine it being a very stable means of propulsion. The Blade and motor are pretty small, most airboats have bigger motors and about a 6-8 foot prop with vanes for control. As you can see this one rotates on an axis, which would create more instability. It is way to high to plane a boat very good. Maybe a fan to keep them cool on a hot night of gigging or bowfishing? Redneck trolling motor? Fish Scaler? Air brake? Carp chopper? Anyway, I took the pic in a Walmart parking lot in Selmer, TN yesterday. Jerry Rapp Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 it is definitely a gigging boat or night bow fishing rig. Outboard on the back. Maybe the fan is for shallow water movement. Where did you see it?
fishinwrench Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 It's a fan pusher. Pushes you along through shallow flat water nice and easy for bowfishing. Doesn't churn up mud or spook fish. Operates off the generator power.
jdmidwest Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 So it is a Redneck Trolling Motor. I thought it looked like a gas engine on it. I could see how it could be used if it were electric and slow speed. But that looks like a gas motor. fishinwrench Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Some are gas motors, they serve as a push fan AND a generator for the lights.
jdmidwest Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Wow. Now I know how the guy felt at the ramp when he came over and asked what happened to our prop. I replied, "we hit a rock last time out and tore the lower off" being a martass.. He had never seen a jet motor. dtrs5kprs 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
J-Doc Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 There is one of these here in Rogers. I saw it unloading and was thinking same thing. Except carp chopper never came up! Lol!!! Saw it in use later after dark. Looked like they were searching for underwater treasure with a searchlight station. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
