Hammer time Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I have never caught a walleye on purpose, all have came bass fishing. Biggest of late was with Sac River Jim in the spring of 2015, 5 and half on c-rig lizard. First and only time I fished with him, he passed in that summer in a car accident. Super guy and we boated over 60 bass that day, including that eye. Super guy with tons of knowledge, still remember that day. dprice 1

Sound like a heck of a day ! About the one that got away... knowing how walleye swim, I can just imagine what that big fish looked like swimming away. Wow what a story !
waterpossum Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 There are a lot of interesting articles available about the early days of Walleye fishing ( i.e. Jack Salmon) in the Ozarks. The true river strain fish grow to much larger size, but are not as numerous. Most Missouri impoundments over a period of years have been stocked with the lake species of the north , which really limits the potential fish size. The only places I know to target a trophy size fish are below the Powersite dam at Forsythe or some tributaries of Truman Lake from February to around the first of April. dan hufferd, dprice and Johnsfolly 3
wtr dogs Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Getting the trebles caught in the landing net brought back bad memories My buddy had bad mouthed my landing net as too small So fishing a tournament on the Rock the next weekend he brought a LARGE rubberized landing net. Using a jigging spoon I still have the mental picture of that walleye hanging over the side of the net by a foot and the treble hook hug in the other side as the walleye flipped off. I grew up on Tablerock , mostly on the Kings. I actually saw several eyes from 15-18 lbs in the freezer at the Viola boat dock waiting to go to the taxidermist. They had been caught way up the river during the full moon of February. The dock burned and they never made it to the taxidermist. I think this was around 1972. Very few people fished for the walleyes. I saw a 13 # on display as late as 2000. That fisherman was in a bass tournament. dan hufferd and Johnsfolly 2 Home of the the dam of 2009 AKC National Debry Champion.--AMMOAMMO

Man if that story doesn't make a guy want to chase a trophy walleye I don't know what would ! I feel like Indiana Jones looking for clues to the big treasure. You can bet I will be on the Kings river looking some time this year. Johnsfolly and terryj1024 2
Hammer time Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 For sure, back in the early 80's when I fished the Kings river a ton, every early spring lots of 10-15 lb eyes were caught. Most guys came down and stay Achen Back resort and targeted large walleye from their up the river. Resort is now called Hickory Hollow I believe.
Hammer time Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Dan, biggest eyes on Table Rock over the years have come from way up Kings river or way up White River. On Stocton midlake to dam pre spawn on points with rogue or on riprap. I've been fishing both since June 1981 dan hufferd, dprice and waterpossum 3
dprice Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Seems with more anglers wishing this. More walleye introduced is the answer . Seems this would also thin the small KentuckIves and carp introduced in 2000 I accidentally caught a huge to me - walleye and a square bill Hammer time and dan hufferd 2 Dprice priceheatingair.com

Lol That thing is a beast ! I sure hope that there are some big ones still lurking out there. Most of the big walleye stories that I here are old. At least the frequently caught stories are. I do hear of the occasional large walleye, but not many. What a great bunch of information, that you all very much. I am soaking it up, hopefully it will lead to a big fish someday !
