Looking at making the switch to supreme or extreme from a drift boat.  Would like to know what brand and model and what accessories are a must to have from some of you that have experience with these boats. I do mainly all flyfishing on the tail waters but do go occasions to small lakes and rivers.  Thanks

While a bow mount trolling motor is not good on the fast tailwaters, it is very useful for lakes and slow rivers. I used a front mount tiller. From the comments I've read, you might also check out the spot lock versions. From experience, stay off lakes that have wake boats and 25 foot yachts.

Do not be tempted to buy only a 9.9 hp motor. Minimum should be a 15 and think about a 25.

Repair kit and tools that include fuses and such because of the motors.

Oh, be sure you mount navigation lights for early and late fishing. Boats on a lake don't see low lying river boats well.

Other than that, I can't think of anything you probably don't already carry in your drift boat.

How shallow of water do these boats allow me to fish in?

My Supreme would easily travel in 18 inches of water with the prop down and in drive. With the prop up and drifting that became less than a foot. Upon need I would use power and then lift the motor to skid gravel or rock on the White.

if you fly fish, I highly recommend a jet outboard.  Since you had a drifter, you are going to want oar locks and mounts.  I have a supreme 207xp and while not like rowing a drift boat, it rows like a dream.  My options I added are :  fly rod tubes for storing rods not in use and tray(s) for storing rods that are in use while moving from spot to spot, Dierks anchor system (a lot of guys are going to the minn kota electric anchor, I personally am not a fan), cooler for rowers seat, cup holders, a storage tray next to rowers seat to hold floatant, fly box, pliers, etc. , stereo system, oar storage rails (supreme has a cool storage system where the oars actually sit outside the boat when running the outboard so they don't drip water in your boat), trays in the middle compartments to store wallet and keys, removable casting braces (they hook in on a seat post and pop right out when you don't want to use them). I also have a bow mount trolling motor w/ foot pedal for when I go chase bass/striper at the lake, its on a removable bracket so when I go to the river I just pull a pin and take the trolling motor off. I'm sure there is more I am forgetting.  Supreme really specializes in fly fishing jon boats.  I have had 4 jet boats setup for fly fishing, feel free to ask me any questions on what would be good to add or for pics of my supreme if you are wanting to see what they look like or any ideas on what options to add.

Jets and props both have limitations, as long as you understand how to prevent a jet from vacuuming up weeds and gravel I'd say it is the preferred choice.

Our Shawnee is going strong at eighteen years old, we're contemplating an upgrade to a new boat with all the best features but something tells me I'll miss the old boat.

I'm looking forward to see how you outfit your new boat.
