Fish24/7 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 that would probably work ,if somebody who already has all the stuff to do that wanted to try it and get back with me that would be great I would send a sample of both sizes too

Go to Do-It molds and use this existing mold to start with. Get your dremel tool out and carve the rest yourself. Place a steel wire that's approx the same diameter as the weedguard , then smash it down hard with a C Clamp. (Thanks Dutch). It's such a specialty item that no one would want to change their mold just for a precious few jig head sales. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Fish24/7 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 thanks for the ideas guys! i just don't have the tools/stuff to do any of this I thought about doing it several years ago when I started making/selling these. Actually it's been cheaper for me to just make them by hand, and how quick I can make them isn't that important to my customers. Mitch f 1
moguy1973 Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Is it really cheaper though? After the cost of the hot pot, the molds, and all the stuff to initially melt down the lead when do you really ever break even? I've thought about getting into making my own jig heads and then I start looking at the cost of start up and I've found it's really just easier and cheaper to find them on ebay or other online sites. I figure if I can find them for between 40-70 cents a piece I'm doing pretty good since the store bought ones are usually much more than that. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

All about supply and demand. It would be unwise to go out and buy the stuff to only make 100 jig heads per year. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

Unless you take it on as a hobby like I have then you are absolutely correct it is cheaper to buy and a whole lot less hassle. When I started making I was doing it for 4 people. Now 20 molds later I am the only one who still fishes. But you reach a point where break even is quick after many years. For example, I got a new mold in last week. I paid $36 for it and have already made $300 worth of jigs for my neighbor and myself. grizwilson 1
