trythisonemv Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Planning on heading down around first of October and wondered if anyone has been night stalking lately? Probably get there around 7pm and stay all night.
JestersHK Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I'll be hitting it hard at night weekend after next. Hope I get just a tad more generation at least one night to throw some sticks, if not I'll bust out the lighted indicators and swing some San Juan worms in the flat stuff. I'll throw a report up for sure. trythisonemv 1
trythisonemv Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 I live just far enough away I can't just roll down on a whim so I just want to get a gauge on how is going. Thank you hk. Tied some sculpin patterns I want to as well as some streamers for the higher flow.
JestersHK Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 White streamers work good, but honestly this time of year for the past few years my go to has been white or orange San Juan worms at night under a lighted inidicator. Free line them no weight, let them drift and when the indicator stops moving its fish on. In the shallows by rebar with the water off with enough moonlight you'll see the dorsals sticking up out of the water... I sight cast to them until I get a good drift down in front of em. Super fun, and had pretty good catch rates especially the nights the bows were moving up lake. They'd come up in groups and you'd see the fins and tops of them sticking out. Gets the blood pumping! I'm anxious to try my top water adventures again too. Blind casting in the moon light and waiting for the surface interruption to set the hook. Should have some good moon here soon for that time frame. This was one from November last year, right at 4 lbs on my scale. Orange San Juan on the drift. Saw him working his way up as he was pretty tall with some shoulders on him. Dropped the drift about 4 feet in front of him and he nailed it. Johnsfolly and trythisonemv 1 1
trythisonemv Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Really hoping to get down more than once this fall
Travis Swift Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I would like to try the night bite from a boat some time, probably in the short creek area. I've often wondered if they would hit jigs then. I'm not sure they could see them so I am a little doubtful. trythisonemv 1
JestersHK Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Don't underestimate their vision. I've caught plenty on jigs at night. I'd worry more about the fog at night in a boat. Drift boat might be best bet. trythisonemv and Johnsfolly 2
Johnsfolly Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 They didn't have any problem finding my olive/orange jigs when JestersHK and I fished last June☺! I hope that anyone getting down toTaney this fall have a great time. I hope to get back down there again this fall and hopefully can fish again with JHK or other OAF members. Jhoff Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 The night bite was good Sunday night, had a 23 inch brown and over 30 fish. Sorry the picture isn't very good. trythisonemv, Johnsfolly, JestersHK and 2 others 5
