Great job night fishing Taney! That's a really nice brown! Did you see if it had an adipose fin? Looks like it may be a triploid by its coloration and I believe that their adipose fins have been clipped. What were you guys fishing out of? trythisonemv 1
JestersHK Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Agreed nice job. Out of the yak too. Very cool trythisonemv 1
Jhoff Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 We were in kayaks around fall creek, they weren't running any water. Where is the adipose fin? I have heard of the triploids but what is the difference between them and a normal brown?

I have heard of the triploids but what is the difference between them and a normal brown? The adipose fin is a small fatty fin behind the dorsal fin and just in front of the tail.. Should be right around where your hand was in the photo. Triploid fish are fish that have three sets of chromosomes instead of the normal two sets in a diploid fish. Because of that they are or tend to be sterile. Since they do not often try to spawn, more of their energy goes into body size and they grow bigger and faster than the normal diploid fish. Fisheries departments will release triploids for a given purpose. Triploid grass carp are realeased for their ability to eat the weeds of a pond or lake. Because they are triploids they themselves should not overpopulate and overeat all of the vegetation. Triploid browns are released to grow large and provide trophy quality fish in a shorter period of time. Phil Lilly can provide more information about these browns in Taneycomo. This topic has been discussed a few times before on this site. trythisonemv 1
Ozarks Chillbilly Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I've been fishing up by the dam the past few night. Have had success fishing some streamers in various sizes. Only have caught rainbows but they sure are hungry! Healthy too. Love catching them on articulated streamers. Members mbkwrh Posted September 28, 2017 Members Posted September 28, 2017 I used to wade fish Taney all the time at night now I just use my boat and have zero issues getting where I want to go top or bottom, not that I need to have my boat out where I fish at I just enjoy it more for the ease of fishing. I have fished Taney going on 23 years now so I know the water very well, I suggest you learn it and learn it well in the day time so you know where everything is located because at night in the fog it can be very tricky if you have no idea where you are. As far as color of fly or lure I am a true believer in water movement verses the color if you have a fly or lure that will push water it will catch just as many fish as you want since trout become very predatory fish at night. Second is the color and to me reds, blues and purples work great for me but I have a lot confidence in those colors on the way a fish can see. I used to have a couple books that were titled " how fish see" & "how fish work" I loaned both books out and I have never seen them since then, it is a very good book full of information about color and how a fish see's it. It also talks about things or I just say it "animals that trout love to eat from mice to ducks. I would suggest that every fisherman read it for all the great knowledge that the author puts out there. Just my 2 cents worth from a strictly streamer fisherman at night. trythisonemv, Johnsfolly, Ozarks Chillbilly and 2 others 4 1
